Robbie Coltrane, who played the beloved Hagrid in the Harry Potter film series, died on Friday October 14 and is survived by his sister Annie Rae, his children Spencer and Alice and their mother Rhona Gemmell. The actor and comedian’s agent Belinda Wright confirmed the news.
Footage of the actor speaking about his time in the Harry Potter film has left fans in tears as he discussed the legacy of the film franchise before his death.
The clip, from January this year, shows the Scots legend dabbing tears from his eye while talking fondly about the making of the magical movies in which he played the role of beloved giant Hagrid.
Speaking during HBO Max’s Harry Potter: Return to Hogwarts reunion which saw most of the cast reunite, he appeared to get emotional.
“It’s the end of an era. Ten years of my life. My children have grown up during it,” he commented.
Robbie, who looked sad, tried to manage a smile as he added: “The legacy of the movies is that my children’s generation will show them to their children … So you could be watching it in 50 year’s time, easily … I’ll not be here, sadly … but Hagrid will, yes.”
The nearly two-hour special, saw actors Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson spoke of Robbie being full of fun on set as they recalled filming at Warner Bros. studio in Leavesden.
Behind-the-scenes footage from the eight films was also shown throughout the special.
