Hundreds of thousands of A-Level students will be anxiously opening their results today, hoping they've achieved a spot at the university of their choice.

But it's worth noting that even the most famous of public figures relate to that feeling, with a number of stars posting good luck messages on social media.

Members of the royal family have also gone through the nerve-wracking process, with some having more success with their exam results than others.

Educated at some of the best schools in the country, and with access to top-notch tutors, one would expect members of the royal family to achieve impressive academic success.

That’s certainly the case with Princess Eugenie, who sailed through her school life with flying colours.

In fact, her parents the Duke of York and Sarah, the Duchess of York, were so pleased with her A-level results in 2008 that they released a statement sharing their pride.

“Delighted by Eugenie’s achievements,” they said, adding: “She has worked extremely hard towards these justifiably fantastic results.”

Like the Duchess of Cambridge, Eugenie, now 32, attended Wiltshire’s prestigious Marlborough College, gaining As in Art and English Literature and a B in History of Art. Following this success, she then went on to graduate with a 2:1 bachelor’s degree in English Literature and History of Art from Newcastle University.

Eugenie’s older sister Princess Beatrice was identified as having dyslexia when she was seven – but proved she wasn’t going to let this hold her back. She gained an A in Drama and Bs in History and Film studies, and later graduated with a 2:1 for her degree in History and the History of Ideas at Goldsmiths’ College in south east London.

Beatrice, 33, opened up about having dyslexia last year, referring to it as a “gift” and “learning difference”. During an interview with mummy blogger Giovanna Fletcher, she said: “Even referring to it as a diagnosis, I feel, does a disservice to the brilliance of some of the most fantastic minds that we have. Just shifting the narrative a bit towards something that is positive, something that is impactful, can really help everyone.”

In 2000, Prince William achieved an A in Geography, B in Art and C in Biology for his A-levels, which he sat at Eton College. His results were enough to secure him a place at the University of St Andrews, where he went on to graduate with a 2:1 in Geography after taking a gap year.

Meanwhile, fellow St Andrews alumna Kate Middleton achieved a 2:1 in History of Art – and also bagged herself an heir to the throne!

Less academic than his older brother, Prince Harry – who also has dyslexia – gained a B in Art and D in Geography for his A-levels, but excelled in other areas by representing the school at cricket and rugby and also being appointed House Captain of Games. He decided against higher education, instead opting to join the Army.

At Gordonstoun School, Prince Charles achieved five GCSEs (O-Levels back then) and two A-Levels – a B in History and a C in French. He then graduated with a 2:2 in History from Trinity College at Cambridge University.

According to reports at the time, Charles’ bodyguard attended all his lectures with him and then sat the same exams – but managed to gain a First!

Charles’ ex-wife Diana, Princess of Wales, was known for being a talented ballet dancer and pianist at school, but struggled academically and failed her O-Levels twice.

Royal expert Mary Kenny later revealed that Diana was deeply insecure about her lack of qualifications, saying: “I think one of the problems with Diana was that she never got a proper education. She had a terrible inferiority complex about that, and said she was thick as two planks.”

But she wasn’t the only royal with no formal qualifications – having been educated at home, the Queen never sat any public exams!
