Sam Smith was kicked off of the dating apps Tinder and Hinge because the services didn’t believe it was actually them.

The English singer-songwriter, 30, who uses the pronouns they/them, opened up to ET Canada about their love life, saying, ‘I’ve always been able to date.’

The Unholy artist – who appeared on Saturday Night Live over the weekend – went into detail about their experiences using various apps.

‘I never did Grindr,’ Smith said. ‘I did Tinder once, I think I got chucked off of Tinder. I got chucked off of Hinge because they thought that I wasn’t me.’

The Too Good at Goodbyes performer added, ‘Well, I didn’t verify my profile, so I should have done that.’

Smith said that they ‘would just be silly’ if they delved into the dating app world, and that they would write on their profile that they love Velma, their dog, and  McDonalds.

The Stay With Me artist has past been romantically linked to designer Christian Cowan, model Jay Camilleri, actor Andy Newton Lee and actor Brandon Flynn.

The Money on My Mind vocalist in the interview also spoke about the comforting impact their dog Velma has had on them.

‘She taught me how to love,’ Smith said of the canine. ‘I really feel like I don’t think I loved anyone other than my family and friends and stuff … she’s really taught me that. I miss her loads by the way, I haven’t seen her in ages.’

The Grammy-winning entertainer is gearing up for the release of their new album Gloria album on Friday, for which they will be embarking on a 27-date North American tour in support of.
