A Place In The Sun presenter Scarlette Douglas “will be absolutely devastated” to learn the news that her co-star Jonnie Irwin has terminal cancer, a friend of the star has revealed. The 35-year-old is said to have had an idea that he was ill before she entered the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! jungle, but will not know the latest.

A well known show rule is that celebrities have no contact with the outside world and are away from their phones for up to three weeks.

A friend of Scarlette’s told the Daily Mail: “Scarlette will be absolutely devastated.

“She knew Jonnie had not been well but had no indication he’s only got months to live.’

“They’re good mates and have known each other for years, it’s just so sad.

“As soon as she’s out and is told, Scarlette will be straight on the phone to him,” they added.

Scarlette joined the Channel 4 property show back in 2015 while Jonnie is one of the programme’s longest-serving presenters, beginning the role in 2004.

In an interview with Hello! Magazine this week, the propery expert revealed he has terminal cancer.

Jonnie experienced his first warning sign when his vision went blurry while driving in 2020.

At the time, he was filming for the show in Italy.

Tests soon determined that his lung cancer had spread to his brain.

“Within a week of flying back from filming, I was being given six months to live,” he revealed.

“I had to go home and tell my wife, who was looking after our babies, that she was on her own pretty much. That was devastating.

“All I could do was apologise to her. I felt so responsible.”

Jonnie has been married to Jessica Holmes since 2016.

They share three children together; Rex, three, and two-year-old twins Rafa and Cormac.

The presenter decided to finally go public with his cancer news as he felt as though he was “carrying a dirty secret”.

He hopes that by sharing his story, he can inspire others “who are living with life-limiting prospects to make the most of everyday”.

Cancer drugs and chemotherapy have helped prolong Jonnie’s prognosis so far.

He has decided to carry on working and vows to make as many memories with his family as he possibly can.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
