Sinead O’Connor shares tribute as her teenage son Shane dies
Tributes have flooded in for Irish musician Sinead O’Connor following her death aged 56.
News of her death has been announced by The Irish Times, however a cause is currently unknown.
Sinead shot to fame across the world in 1990 with her cover of Prince’s Nothing Compares 2 U.
The hit song was the lead on her debut album The Lion and the Cobra released in 1987.
Her second album, I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got, became her biggest success selling over seven million copies worldwide.
Many of the star’s fans have shared heartfelt tributes on social media this evening.
Conor Pope wrote: “There aren’t many news stories that will stop almost every Irish person in their tracks.
“This very sad news is one of them. RIP to one of the finest singers of this – or any – generation.”
Tim Burgess added: “Sinead was the true embodiment of a punk spirit.
“She did not compromise and that made her life more of a struggle. Hoping that she has found peace x.”
Concerned Citizen commented: “RIP Sinead O’Connor. 56 is way too young.”
Throughout her music career she had been open and honest about her personal life which included her spiritual journey, activism, socio-political views and mental health struggles.
