Sir David Jason's daughter has admitted she is "completely overwhelmed with sorrow" over the years she has lost with her famous dad, after they only recently discovered they are father and daughter.
Only Fools and Horses legend Sir David, 83, recently found out he is father to Abi, 52, who was born in 1970 following a brief relationship with her actress mother Jennifer Hill.
Abi, who is an actress, has now spoken out about finding out about her father's identity, revealing she's "incredible proud" but feels sad after having lost out on spending time with him over the years.
The mum-of-one told the Mirror: “In discovering my father’s identity, I am starting to piece together my own."
She continued: “Of course, I am tickled pink and incredibly proud but, frequently, completely overwhelmed with sorrow for the years we have lost.
“After a measured start, now I hope we can consciously make time to see each other more often, so that I can master the art of being the best big sister and build a meaningful father-daughter relationship in its truest sense.”
Abi has not only gained a father but also a younger sister, as Sir David is dad to daughter Sophie, 22, with his wife Gill Hinchcliffe, 62.
The news also makes Sir David a grandad – as Brighton-based actor Abi also has a son, Charlie, aged ten.
Sir David was aged 30 when he met Abi's mum Jennifer when they both appeared on stage during an appearance of Dylan Thomas’s Under Milk Wood at London’s May Fair theatre in 1970.
Abi grew up believing her father was her mother's husband Geoffrey Davion, an actor who appeared in Miss Marple and The Stars Look Down. Geoffrey died in 1996.
Abi began to suspect that Sir David was her father after her mother told her about their short relationship. She then noticed they shared the same shaped nose while at an event for a mutual friend, the Mirror reports.
However it wasn't until several years later that Abi took action, explaining her suspicions in a letter to Sir David. He then took a paternity test, which confirmed the relationship.
The two and Abi's son have since spent time together, including over the festive period, according to the Mirror.
Abi even appeared in a theatre production of Under Milk Wood, which Sir David narrated, in 2008, with the pair having no idea at the time they were related.
Speaking about whether they could work together again in the future, a source told the Mirror: “It would be a dream come true for Abi, if they could work together again now they know they are related.”
