Sophie Rundle's second bundle of joy is for TV as she films new drama

Sophie Rundle’s second bundle of joy? No, this ‘pregnancy’ is just for TV as she films new drama with Matt Stokoe, the father of her real child

Two years after the arrival of her Easter baby, could Sophie be expecting another ‘Rundle of joy’? The Peaky Blinders actress was pictured sporting a large bump on set – but this time it is a prosthetic for her latest character.

The 34-year-old plays the lead in ITV mystery After The Flood, in which the discovery of a man’s body after a natural disaster is not all it seems. And, in a case of life imitating art, her real-life partner Matt Stokoe, 34, co-stars as her husband.

An onlooker watching them on location in Glossop, Derbyshire, said: ‘It’s a beautiful part of the world but there was so much rain that on occasion they had to take a break in filming.

‘But that didn’t seem to stop the joy on set. Sophie and Matt had some great interaction with each other as they were waiting to shoot their scenes. It was such a relaxed environment and everyone looked like they were enjoying working together.’

Sophie found fame as PC Kirsten McAskill in Happy Valley but met an extremely gruesome end at the hands of psychopath Tommy Lee Royce.

She takes on another police role in After The Flood as PC Jo Marshall, who she describes as a ‘brilliantly bold and compelling protagonist’. Her character is tasked with finding out what happened to the dead man and becomes ‘obsessed’ with finding the truth.

Sophie and Matt, who met on the set of Sky One drama Jamestown, share a son, Henry, who will turn two next week. Announcing his birth in 2021, she wrote: ‘Our little boy, who arrived safely and happily over the Easter weekend and changed the game for ever.’

Sophie returned to her role as Ada Thorne in Peaky Blinders just four weeks after giving birth, which she admitted was ‘very intense and absolutely mental. But it was the final season and it felt very important to finish it.’ Since then she has also reprised her role as Ann Walker in Gentleman Jack as well as Laura Simmonds in thriller The Diplomat.

Matt plays the lead in ITV’s forthcoming drama The Hunt For Raoul Moat, about the killer fugitive.

Sophie also says that motherhood has made her tougher, adding: ‘I’m not intimidated by an older man in a position of power, because I’m a mum to this little boy. I much prefer who I am now.’
