The Masked Singer viewers disappointed as Rubbish is revealed as sportsman they’ve ‘never heard of’

Fans of The Masked Singer have been left disappointed by Saturday's episode after Rubbish was unmasked as a legendary sportsman.

In fact, the famous face behind the mask was none other than the Ice Man himself Stephen Hendry but it appears that not everyone is familiar with his Crucible heroics.

Even so, it was the 54 year old who departed the show with the judges opting to save Hot Potato.

The judges had tried their best to work out who was beneath the mound of recycling with Jonathan Ross coming closest after guessing fellow snooker legend Ronnie O'Sullivan.

On taking part Stephen said: “I thought it was so obvious because it was me." He continued: “I love the show and its way out of my comfort zone so I thought why not let's give it a go.”

His departure from the show means Hot Potato joins Fawn, Pigeon and Rhino in next week's show as all eight contestants from series three are due to perform.

But the reveal appears to have left some fans underwhelmed. Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: "Never heard of him #MaskedSingerUK."

Another added: "It's who?"

A third person said: "Ohh wasn’t expecting that…"

While a fourth wrote: "I have no idea who this guy is #MaskedSingerUK"

It comes after Shirlie and Martin Kemp became the show's first-ever double act to unmask after performing as Cat and Mouse last weekend.

When asked if their son, Roman Kemp, knew that they had taken part, Shirlie confessed to host Joel: "No this is going to embarrass him.

"Most people say they are doing it for their kids."

Martin added: "We're doing it to embarrass them."

Joel went on to ask if they enjoyed their time in the competition, Martin exclaimed: "Yeah, so much," before his wife chimed in: "It's been amazing!

"I've never done anything so nerve-wracking in my life."

Voicing once again how shocked she was, Davina told the duo: "That was the best reveal ever. You blew my mind!"

Just minutes after his parents were unmasked as Cat and Mouse, Roman took to social media to share his shock.

The Capital FM DJ wrote: "I JUST SHOUTED THE PHRASE “TAKE IT OFF” TO MY PARENTS I CANT UNDO THAT #MaskedSingerUK."

And sharing a clip of the unmasking, he continued: "That’s enough internet for today…"

The radio DJ's followers were left in hysterics at his reaction, with one replying: "P***ing myself that they did all this to just embarrass you [laughing emoji] parents are savage."

While a second joked: "It could have been worse, they could have hung on another couple of weeks and been unmasked on your birthday…."
