Vernon Kay has reportedly signed up to star in the next series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in a £250,000 deal.

According to reports, the TV and radio presenter, 46, had been approached by ITV bosses to appear on the hit programme for two years, but is finally expected to head to the jungle this autumn.

Sources also claimed the show, which has aired from Australia since its inception in 2002, could be set in Scotland for the upcoming edition as producers assess contingency plans amid the coronavirus pandemic.

On Vernon’s alleged stint, an insider told The Mirror: ‘Everyone’s so pleased to have Vernon on board, he’s a lovely guy, full of down-to-earth northern charm and perfect for the show.’

If the broadcaster does appear on the competition show, he’ll be dominating British TV alongside his wife Tess Daly, who presents BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing on the weekends.

The media personality recently hit headlines when his 2010 sexting scandal with Rhian Sugden resurfaced during new documentary Page 3: The Naked Truth.

The glamour model, 33, lamented the idea of the presenter ‘getting away with it’ after publicly apologising to Tess, 51.

The publication also reported that TV executives are considering to look at alternative locations for the next series as some cities in Australia have experienced a spike in coronavirus infections.

They said: ‘Having I’m a Celebrity for three weeks in November is seen as a huge priority. Everyone hopes to get back to Australia but over there they are struggling massively with flare-ups resulting in second lock-downs.

‘It simply may not be possible because of safety. A decision needs to be made next month – in the meantime, the team is looking at stately homes, castles, mansions in remote areas of Scotland and England to see if we could stage it here.’

A shake-up for the franchise has proven to reap benefits in the past, as Holly Willoughby bagged the show its highest-ever ratings in the first week when she stepped in for Ant McPartlin and presented the series with Declan Donnelly in 2018.

MailOnline has contacted representatives for Vernon and ITV for further comment.

The speculation comes amid claims bosses have also lined up Jessie J and football legend Paul Merson for the survival programme.

I’m A Celebrity is said to be ‘desperate to land top talent’ and are currently in negotiations with the pop star, 32, and the former England player, 52.

However, despite being offered big bucks to head into the jungle, Jessie ‘isn’t sure the show is for her,’ while Paul ‘has seen what it’s done for Harry Redknapp’ who was crowned jungle king in 2018.

A source told The Sun: ‘Jessie’s been offered good money but isn’t sure that the show is for her. She is keen to put her music first.’

‘Paul is really keen to relaunch his TV career and thinks this is the best way to do it after he’s seen what it has done for his mate Harry Redknapp, but he needs it to be worth his while and is negotiating for a top price.’

‘The jungle is the jewel in ITV’s crown and they’re desperate to land top talent to keep viewers hooked.’
