Zoe Ball, 48, gained a new presenting partner on Strictly: It Takes Two this year as Rylan Clark-Neal, 30, has joined her on the BBC spin-off show. The pair previously crossed paths at BBC Radio 2, where they both host their own shows, and are now working together on TV for the first time. However, the duo were recently forced to deny speculation about tension between them after reports suggested they bickered during rehearsals. The spat reportedly took place when Rylan disrupted Zoe’s rehearsal with his antics, which made her snap back: “Shut up.”
It’s really nice working with Zoe because I’ve known her for such a long time.
A source told the publication: “Zoe tried to make the remark in a jokey way, but it was clear she was annoyed.
“She was just trying to do her job.”
They continued: “Rylan wasn’t filming but he was ‘performing’ for the crew — telling jokes and laughing noisily. He was being very loud and Zoe snapped.
“It was obvious Rylan took offence — despite her light-hearted tone — and it was very awkward. You could cut the atmosphere with a knife.”
However, before the rumours emerged – which has been dismissed by the pair, Rylan gushed about Zoe and insisted she is “great” to work with.
In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk at the Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards, the TV personality said: “Zoe is amazing.
“It’s really nice working with Zoe because I’ve known her for such a long time and we’ve never worked together.
“We’ve hardly really met many times in real life but we’ve always spoke and obviously I started to do her radio show when she moved to Breakfast, and now we’re working together so it’s great.”
Addressing their similarities as hosts, he added: “We’re just exactly the same, we’re like, ‘Let’s just make it up and hope for the best’!”
Zoe recently took to Twitter to hit back at reports detailing her feud with Rylan with a witty reference to the soap opera Dynasty.
The TV and radio personality shared a photo of the soap opera’s rival stars Joan Collins and Linda Evans and jokingly compared the actresses to her and Rylan.
Zoe made the reference in response to Rylan’s tweet denying the rumours today.
Rylan wrote in view of his 1.6 million followers: “Morning @ZoeTheBall. You evil witch.
“(this isn’t true btw but made me giggle) x.”(sic)
Zoe then replied by posting a photo of the glamorous Dynasty stars and added the caption: “Love you leggy one xx.”
Rylan seemed to enjoy his fellow presenter’s choice of image as he replied: “Can this be our Halloween lewk?”(sic)
Strictly: It Takes Two airs tonight at 6.30pm on BBC Two.
