A KENZO x Kansai Yamamoto Collaboration is Dropping Next Week

KENZO has just announced an exciting collaboration with Kansai Yamamoto. Existing as the last project before the passing of Kansai in July, this collection also bears a deeper significance now that the house has lost Kenzo Takada just last month.

After taking over after the Carol Lim and Humberto Leon-era of KENZO, Felipe Oliveira Baptista set out to create a roadmap of dream artists and designers he wished to work with. One of those names was Kansai Yamamoto. Receiving blessings from both Takada and Yamamoto just last year, it was full steam ahead for Baptista in creating a collection that not only paid homage to the Parisian flair of KENZO but the representation of Japanese motifs and cultural symbols found in Kansai’s work.

Dubbed the KENZO x KANSAIYAMAMOTO collection, each item blends details from each of the names’ archives and modernizes it for 2020. Relics from the ’80s – ’90s have been reintroduced via casual clothing staples and small accessories — animal prints, vivid color tones, caligraphy, feline mascots, it doesn’t get anymore KENZO-Kansai than this. Fans of Kansai will also be pleased to learn that the original “Brakes-Release” coat has been brought back in sweater form.

This unisex collection is set to drop over at KENZO starting November 30.
