King Charles and Queen Camilla looked happier than ever standing next to each other in the new official Coronation portrait, taken by photographer Hugo Burnand in the Blue Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace. Queen Camilla and the King wore matching ensembles – the Queen Consort chose one of her favourite blue dresses for the occasion while the King sported a blue tie and blue suit.
Camilla donned her Fiona Clare in royal blue which featured three-quarter sleeves, a long skirt and a bodice with a zip.
The Queen Consort donned the same dress earlier this month for an interview ahead of World Poetry Day.
This is, without a doubt, one of Camilla’s favourite dresses as she has chosen the design for a number of occasions, including when she had Queen Rania of Jordan and Princess Mary of Denmark over for tea at Clarence House last year.
For the Coronation portrait, the monarch combined the royal blue look with an elegant necklace featuring four strands of pearls and a diamond clasp, and a pair of pearl earrings.
The necklace is a subtle nod to the late Queen Elizabeth, who was rarely seen without her pearls.
For the photograph, Camilla chose royal blue, a colour often worn by royals which symbolises trust and confidence, but also authority.
Fashion expert and stylist Samantha Harman previously told Express.co.uk that Camilla “loves wearing blue”.
The colour “brings out the colour of her eyes,” she said and added: “Blue is a calming colour, and in colour psychology, it signals you’re ‘in safe hands’.”

Behavioural colour psychologist and author of The Little Book of Color, Karen Haller, commented that King Charles and Camilla wearing the same hue shows they “are coming together as a family, representing themselves as a cohesive unit”.
“When it comes to colour psychology darker blues communicates you are in a position of authority, trustworthy, reliable and can be depended on.
“You have a sense of duty and take that seriously with committed focus,” the expert told MyLondon.
Camilla could have deliberately chosen the colour to evoke a feeling of trust and confidence ahead of being crowned as the Queen Consort next month.
Experts at Color-meaning explained that royal blue suggests you can trust that person. “People tend to feel safe when surrounded by royal blue,” they explained.
Royal blue also serves as “a positive presence”, it adds an air of “tranquillity anywhere it goes”.
The experts added: “There’s something exceptionally tranquil about this strong shade. Colour psychology maintains that royal blue is so calming because it reminds people of the ocean.
“Surround yourself with royal blue if you’re looking for peace and rest,” they recommended.
Buckingham Palace also released a picture of the official Coronation invite which was designed by artist Andrew Jamieson.
The invite reads: “The Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla – By Command of the King the Earl Marshall is directed to invite… to be present at the Abbey Church of Westminster on May 6, 2023.”
King Charles will be crowned at Westminster Abbey on May 6 and members of the British Royal Family, as well as politicians, heads of state and members of royal households from around the world, are expected to attend.
