IT comes as no surprise that fast food isn't the healthiest of options, but it may shock you to learn just how many calories your favourite burgers are really packing away.
If you're a Big Mac fan, here is all you need to know about the iconic fast food item.
How many calories are in a Big Mac?
According to McDonald's, a classic Big Mac has 590 kcals.
A large fries on the side is an extra 480 kcals.
If you wash it down with a large coke, that's another 290 kcals added.
In total, your McDonald's meal totals a whopping 1,360 kcals.

Ultimately, it's reasonable to want an idea of how many calories are in a Big Mac.

An investigation by Business Insider took some of the most popular foods from McDonald's down to Colombia University in the US to test the meals for their calories.

To measure the given calories, scientists used something called a bomb calorimeter.
The study, conducted in 2018, said that in the UK a large fries comes in at 444 calories at the time.
However, according to the study, the portion comes in at 594 calories when tested.
"Our website details nutritional information for all UK products and is up to date and accurate," a McDonald's spokesperson told Mirror Online.
McDonald's started to display dietary information and outline just how many calories are in its products in 2011.
The Department of Health said at the time that calorie labelling "makes people more aware of the energy content of their foods and does influence people's choices".
However, the franchise did their own research which showed that calorie labelling makes less of a difference than you might think.
While eight in 10 of its customers believe all companies should display simple, visible calorie information, fewer than one in five (17%) told the fast food chain that calories on menu boards would make them think more about what they are eating.
What is the McDonald's sauce recipe?
Unfortunately for many Big Mac fans, McDonald’s doesn’t relish letting people know what it is in its secret sauce.
Back in August 2017, the “secret” Big Mac sauce recipe was reportedly leaked online – and it contains a staggering 33 ingredients.
The ingredients are Soybean Oil, Pickle Relish (Diced Pickles, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Sugar, Vinegar, Corn Syrup, Salt, Calcium Chloride, Xanthan Gum, Potassium Sorbate [Preservative], Spice Extractives, Polysorbate 80), Distilled Vinegar, Water, Egg Yolks, Onion Powder, Spices, Salt, Propylene Glycol Alginate, Sodium Benzoate (Preservative), Mustard Bran, Sugar, Garlic Powder, Vegetable Protein (Hydrolyzed Corn, Soy and Wheat), Caramel Color, Extractives of Paprika, Soy Lecithin, Turmeric (Color), Calcium Disodium EDTA (Protect Flavor).
How much does a Big Mac Meal cost in the UK?
McDonald's menu is the same across the UK – stock and ice cream machines permitting – but its prices do differ.
Typically, a medium Big Mac meal will set you back £5.39 and for a large meal will cost you £5.99.
The burger by itself will cost you £3.69.
The fast-food chain regularly updates its menu, usually every six weeks.
