How to clean white canvas Vans shoes

Here is a list of what you'll need:

• Soft brush or a hoovers round dusting brush
• Baking soda
• Hydrogen peroxide
• Toothbrush
• Microfiber cloth
• Mr. Clean Magic Eraser

The first step is to remove loose dust or dirt to a void making a bigger mess.

Mix up a thin paste of baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and warm water.

In a small bowl add 1 tablespoon of baking soda, ½ tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide and ½ tablespoon of warm water.

Mix it all together until it makes a thin paste.

Gently scrub your shoes with the paste with a toothbrush.

Scrub the shoes in a circular motion.

Once you've done this wipe your shoes with a clean, wet cloth to rinse them.

Use the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser or paste to clean the soles of the shoes.

Allow the shoes to air dry in a cool spot.

How to clean white leather Vans

You'll need:

• A soft brush or your hoover's round dusting brush
• Baking soda
• Toothbrush
• Microfiber cloth
• Leather conditioner

First remove all the loose dust or dirt with the soft brush.

In a small bowl mix one table spoon of baking soda and ½ tablespoon of warm water until it forms a thin paste.

Wipe the surface of the shoes with a clean, wet cloth to rinse them.

How to clean white suede Vans

Here's what you need for fresh stains:

• White paper towels
• Baking soda
• Suede cleaner
• Suede brush
• Suede protector

Using the clean paper towel blot the stain then sprinkle baking soda on the stain.

This will sit and soak up the stain overnight.

Once this is done brush away the powder.

However, if this doesn't work use a suede cleaner.

Wait until the shoes are dry and gently brush the shoes to restore the suede nap.

Brush in the direction of the fibres and not back and forth or in circles.

This will mean you won't damage the suede any further.

Clean the soles with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.

You must then apply a suede protector to help prevent further staining or damage.

For suede Vans with old stains you'll need:

• A suede brush or toothbrush.
• Garment steamer
• Suede eraser

Gently brush or scrape away the stain from the surface of the shoe using the suede brush or toothbrush.

Brush in the direction of the fibres to prevent further damage.

Steam the area for a few seconds, if the stain is gone but a matted patch is left behind use a garment steamer on a low setting then brush the fibres in the area again.

If the stain is still there, you'll need to take your vans to a repair shop so a professional can look at them.

Clean the soles with Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and then apply a suede protector.

Can I put my white Vans in the washing machine?

We do not recommend that you put your Vans in the washing machine especially if they are new.

However, if you're short on time and want to pop them in you should only do this with canvas Vans.

If you decide to use the machine, place the shoes in a mesh bag to help them keep their shape and add in some white towels to balance and buffer the load.

Put the machine on a delicate cycle on your machine with warm or cold water with a low or moderate speed.

It's also worth noting that the washing machine can cause your shoes to shrink.

Should I bleach my white Vans?

No, you should never bleach your Vans!

Bleach is too harsh to use on white Vans.

Why do white Vans turn yellow after washing?

There are a few reasons as to why your white Vans may turn yellow.

Bleach can cause yellow staining on white shoes once they've dried.
