ARE you fed up with working 9-5 and not having financial freedom?
Well, if you have ever debated whether to set up your own side hustle and need a push, look no further, as Kat Norton, a.k.a. “Miss Excel”, is here to get you inspired.
Kat explained that in the early days of the pandemic, she found herself moving back into her childhood bedroom, as her consulting job slowed down massively.
But after a few months, like many of us, she grew bored and restless.
Her job was getting her by financially, but she wanted a new challenge – something different that would keep her occupied.
After a phone call with her best friend, Anna, about potential side hustle ideas, Kat realised that after four years of her teaching Microsoft Excel at her consulting firm – she could turn it into her own business.

And little did she know, Kat would be able to turn her training side hustle into a million-dollar business.
Kat told CNBC: “Suddenly, a lightning bolt hit: I could post mini Excel lessons on TikTok.
“Little did I know, that idea would lead to a fun side hustle that would eventually turn into Miss Excel, my successful full-time Excel training business.
“Today, it has grown to more than 1 million followers across TikTok and Instagram — and has brought in more than $1 million in course sales.”

By the time Kat had posted her fourth video, she had racked up 100,000 views in just a few days.

Kat explained: “By my sixth video, the CEO of an IT company sent a message saying he loved my fun teaching style and wanted to pay me to create Excel training videos for his clients.
“I accepted his offer and ordered a green screen and a ring light to make my videos look more professional.
“I formed an LLC on June 15, 2020. Next thing I knew, I was in business.”
At the time, Kat was still working her 9-5, and by October, she had grown her social media audience to 300,000 followers, with many of her videos going viral.
Kat then decided to take two weeks off from her consulting job, where she then filmed over 100 videos.
She combined the videos to make a package called The Excelerator Course — what she describes as “a fun, comprehensive Excel training that starts at the absolute basics and finishes with advanced techniques like pivot tables and lookup functions.”
Kat priced the course at $297 [£252] and by November 2020, she made her first sale.
Just months later, in January 2021, she was making £12,748 per month in passive income from sales.
This huge income finally pushed Kat to quit her job and focus on being a full-time entrepreneur.
Since leaving her job, Kate has made more than $1 million [£850,105] in Miss Excel sales and in October 2021, she made a whopping $100,000 [£85,010] in sales in just one day.
In addition to The Excelerator Course, Kat has since created two more Excel courses — an advanced course and a mini Dashboard course — along with several others for PowerPoint, Word, Teams, Outlook, OneNote and Google Sheets.
If you are fed up with the office slog and are wondering where to get started, Kat has some advice for you.
Kat explained: “I firmly believe that building a healthy relationship with yourself is the greatest thing you can do to achieve success.
“Through my dedication to practices like meditation and kundalini yoga, I was able to shed subconscious beliefs that were discouraging me. I went from being an incredibly shy person with an anxiety disorder to dancing in front of millions of people on TikTok.
“Letting go of my tendency to be a perfectionist made me realise that there’s never really a “perfect time” to do something.
“Once you dive into something, no matter how challenging it seems at first, you’ll find that you’re much more capable than you think.”
