A TIKTOKER tested out a viral laundry trend on her dad’s hats and it was both the grossest and the best thing she’s ever done.
Laundry stripping is an aggressive cleaning method that cleans clothes and fabrics by putting them in an overnight water soak full of detergents and fabric softeners.
Erica Gremminger tested the trend out for her 45,000 followers on TikTok and used her dad’s “nasty” hats as a guinea pig.
She first filled up her bathtub with hot water, 1/4 cup of borax and 1/4 of Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda, and 1/4 cup of laundry detergent.
After this Erica stirred the mixture before placing the hats under the water to soak overnight.
Immediately after throwing the hats in the water, Erica noted that the water was “already turning black.”
After taking the hats out hours later, the water had turned a deep brown and left a ring around the tub after Erica drained it.
“You’re kidding,” she said in disbelief.
“Stripping my dad’s sweaty hats,” she wrote in the video’s caption with a vomiting emoji. “Best thing I’ve done in a while.”
The video went viral, gaining over 12,000 comments.

“But why does your dad have 25 hats?” a viewer asked, commenting on the large number of hats Erica’s dad owned.
“My dad used to put his hat in the dishwasher,” said another user.
Others criticized Erica for her method of cleaning the hats.
“You took all the magic away from the hats,” wrote one viewer.
“Why would you do that?” asked another. “He put so much work into those hats and you just washed all that away.”
Erica clapped back, “My dad doesn’t save clothing filled with sweat because it represents ‘hard work.’ That’s insane.”
