WITH AUTUMN right around the corner it's time to start planning ahead in your garden.
There are seven key jobs that you can do now that will make a massive difference in a few weeks time.
Gardening expert William Mitchell from Sutton Manor Nursey explained that the changing weather can make or break your garden.
He said: "Plants can be extremely vulnerable in times when the seasons are rapidly changing.
"This is because the plants have become used to the slightly more predictable and warmer weather that we have had over the spring/summer months.”
If you want to get a head start in your garden, there's not time like the present, and these jobs will ensure yours transitions into the colder months without a hitch.

Protect new plants
A good place to start in your garden is protecting newer plants and trees, since they're more venerable than more hardy shrubs.
According to the pro, the best thing to do is wrap any new trees to protect them from the changing weather.
He explained: "You would initially think that the intention of the tree wrap would be to keep the tree warm in the winter, however, this is not true.

Get rid of weeds
Garden weeds usually thrive during the warm summer months, meaning that by the time autumn rolls around they can be hard to control.
De-weeding will help keep your garden looking lush for autumn.
"If you fail to do this then you may have a mammoth de-weeding job when spring comes around again.
You could also have many dead plants that have been killed by the spreading of weeds," the pro explained.
Cover outdoor furniture
As soon as you're sure the warm weather is gone for good and you wont be spending any more time lounging in your garden, it's time to cover garden furniture.
Protecting outdoor furniture from the elements will help it last longer and look new for for years to come.
Prune any perennials
Pruning perennials will instantly make your garden look tidier during autumn and winter.
This will also help them thrive next year.
