DECORATING your home can quickly burn a hole in your pocket.

So you'll be glad to know that an interior designer has revealed the six items you can scrimp on without compromising on style.

Nick Lewis currently works in Vancouver, Canada, and often shares his professional advice on YouTube – and in one video, he revealed where you can save money on interior pieces.

Lighting

Creating ambience in your home is important, but that doesn't mean you have to spend hundreds on lighting fixtures to achieve it.

There are plenty of dupes and good quality affordable lighting options available on the market these days.

The expert said: "I don't think its really worth spending that sort of premium to get something really pricey.

"This is just a great way to save money in the budget."

Cushions and throws

Just like lighting, cushions, throws and other soft fabric accessories can totally elevate a room.

They are often a design staple – but that doesn't mean you have to fork out hundreds to make your space look luxe.

Instead, spend your money on a good quality insert that will last you years rather than pricey cushion covers.

The interior expert recommends Ikea cushion inserts as they are 'great quality' and you can swap out the covers whenever you like.

Glassware

You may have thought it was the epitome of class to have crystal glassware for your guests.

But now days there are plenty of inexpensive styles that don't scrimp on design.

"160 bucks for like two wine glasses, I'm sorry no ma'am why are we spending that much money?" asks Nick Lewis.

Hardware

Good interior design focuses on the smaller details like door handles and drawer pulls, but again, you don't have to spend a fortune to look stylish.

High street shops like H&M offer lots of different styles and some even come in real marble but a fraction of the price

The interior expert said: "There are so many gorgeous drawer pulls out there its like little jewellery for your home and you don't have to spend an absolute premium."

Accent tables

You may be tempted to splurge on end tables in your front room.

But with so much furniture already taking up guests' attention, they're often forgotten about.

Although you want it to last, the expert said there isn't much point spending a lot of money on them.

Instead, he recommends investing on a good sofa, coffee table and rug.

Plus, he recommends looking at Ikea as they have some great designs that are affordable.

Storage baskets

Woven storage baskets have become a popular trend over the last couple of years.
