Inside the Kardashian's 'humble rich' childhood worlds apart from their kids’ designer wardrobes & lavish playrooms

THE Kardashian clan grew up on our screens with the fresh-faced girls blossoming into models, billionaires and mothers themselves.

But before Keeping Up With The Kardashians hit our screens, life for Kris, Khloe, Kourtney, Kim and Robert Jr was very different.

Kris, 64, and Robert Kardashian met in 1973, but they didn’t marry until 1978, and welcomed Kourtney in 1979, Kim in 1980 and Khloe in 1984.

The couple moved into a house in Beverly Hills after they married, and while it wasn’t small it’s a far cry from the numerous sprawling mansions the Kardashian's own now.

The house has sentimental value for all the family, so much so that Kim rented out her childhood home last year as a surprise for her mum, who burst into tears after finding out.

Kim, 39, a mum-of-four, wrote: “I rented our childhood home.

“All of our memories live here especially with our dad. It’s where each Kardashian child was born and made us who we are.

“Growing up, the home had the most ridiculous wallpaper and kitchen set!

“I remade all of our table settings, decor out of the same fabric and print as the wallpaper.

“We had lunch at the home as if it hadn’t changed and we cried the entire time.”

Kim also rented her parents’ cars – and made replica license plates – as the nostalgia went into overdrive.

She added: “This was the most special, nostalgic day of my life and we felt my dad’s presence enjoying this day with us!

“I kept it together and didn’t cry the entire lunch even though I cried during the entire planning process.

“But at the end I went into my old bathroom, closed the door and cried so hard.”

Snaps from the Kardashians childhood show the young girls were often dressed in matching outfits, with their hair styled in bunches or plaits.

While Kris and Robert divorced in 1991, she soon remarried Caitlyn Jenner, who was known as Bruce at the time, that same year.

Kendall, now 24, came along in 1995, and sister Kylie, now 23, followed in 1997.

Snaps from Kylie and Kendall’s childhood show little children messing around in washing baskets – while they too were dressed in matching outfits.

As they grew up they lived a wealthy but not excessive lifestyle, with Kim recalling her first job when she was 16, at a clothes store.

She told Teen Vogue: “I got a job when I was 16. It was at a clothing store.

“I had crashed my car, and before I got another car my dad made me sign a contract that if I hit the car I was responsible for taking care of it.

“I had no money, so I had to go get a job, pay for it.”

Kim added that she was “always working”, and never asked people for money.

She said her parents had made it clear that while she enjoyed a nice lifestyle, she’d need to start working for it once she turned 18.

Their childhood is a world away from the lavish lifestyle the second generation enjoys, with fully stocked playrooms, designer wardrobes and even a fleet of mini-cars.

All of momager Kris’ children, apart from Kendall, have kids, with Kourtney, 41, welcoming Mason in 2009, Penelope in 2012 and Reign in 2014, with Scott Disick.

Kim was next to become a mother, and has the most children after welcoming four with husband Kanye West.

North came along in 2013, Saint in 2015, Chicago in 2018, and Psalm last year.

Khloe, 36, welcomed her daughter around the same time as Chicago, having True in 2018 with Tristan Thompson.

Kylie kept her pregnancy under wraps, announcing to the world she’d welcomed daughter Stormi with Travis Scott in 2018.

And Robert had another girl, Dream, with Blac Chyna in 2016.

Instagram is awash with snaps showing off the Kardashian-Jenner kids’ lavish lifestyles, with over-the-top birthday parties, Christmas presents and holidays.

Although Kim previously told Wealthsimple in 2018: "I worry about giving my kids too much.”

Kylie went all out for her daughter’s first birthday, and built an entire theme park complete with rides.

She called it Stormi World, and said on Instagram: "I had to go all out for my baby.”

But it seems big sister Kim trumped her for North’s second birthday – shutting down a section of Disneyland for her party.

And earlier this year Kylie splashed out £150,000 on a pony named Frozen for her daughter.

The breeder wrote on Instagram: “@kyliejenner in true fashion, made sure her daughter had the most precious pony out there.”

Kylie was seemingly inspired by sister Kim again, after she took North out horse-riding in Wyoming for her seventh birthday the month before Stormi's party.

The cousins don't just get around by horseback though, as Chicago, True and Dream drive an impressive fleet of cars, with yellow Mercedes, a pink Mercedes, and Bentleys among the collection.

While Kim got her first car at 16 – a BMW – her daughter was just one when she got her own set of wheels.

Kim shared a video of Chicago driving a yellow electric Mercedes, which is a miniaturised version of one Kanye gave to his wife, so it looks the mum and daughter will also be twinning.

Unveiling the car, Kim said: “Look what Kourtney got Chicago for her first birthday!”

True was even younger when she was given her first vehicle, with the tot handed the keys to Bentley when she was just four-months-old, and was given a sparkly pink Bentley a few months later – before she turned one.

And the kids need somewhere to park their cars, with Stormi and True boasting massive two-storey playhouses.

Kris treated her granddaughter Stormi to the impressive house which has a balcony, hardwood floors, arched windows and even a doorbell, rumoured to have cost around £10,000.

And True has a similar property, with the tot relaxing in her own two-storey house – nearly identical to her cousin’s.

Khloe shared a video of her daughter ‘making breakfast’ in the life-sized doll’s house, which also has its own balcony.

But that’s nothing on Kim’s playroom in her $60 million mansion in Calabasas for her four kids, which is filled with toys, instruments and fancy dress clothing.

Sharing a video of the full stocked den, Kim said: “We have a stage here where our kids often have a band, and a projector so they watch movies while they sit in the playroom.

"We have our sing-along microphones and violins. The kids play instruments. North plays's violin.”

The Kardashian-Jenner slay in the fashion department too, with North sporting a wardrobe full of Balmain, Alexander Wang, and matching Givenchy with Kim, while the tot graced the cover of a magazine when she was just five.

While cousin Mason infamously stepped out in a Versace coat for his ninth birthday, worth around £3,000.

And the youngsters will all be matching with each other just like their parents – but with Louis Vuitton bags.

Kim shared a snap of multicoloured mini handbags, which she said she’d bought as a present for all the baby girls in the family.

She wrote: “I got these for all of the baby girls in the fam for Xmas from Japan."

At around £1,000 a pop, the present haul could have cost more than £10,000.

Plus this how the Kardashian clan has changed since KUWTK began in 2007 as show ends.
