Kate cleverly ‘avoids blisters’ when wearing heels – plus the royal’s shoe size

Many fans are envious of the Princess of Wales’s shoe collection. Kate’s impeccable collection includes her favourite two-tone slingback heels from Alessandra Rich and her iconic Gianvito Rossi “Gianvito 105” pumps.

The entire collection is thought to be worth thousands of pounds. When it comes to selecting her shoes, Prince William’s wife adheres to a unique style rule.

She purchases her heels in two sizes, ranging from a size 5.5 to a six on the British scale. The Princess has never explained why she does this, but it wouldn’t be shocking if comfort was the main reason.

The royal’s shoe size preference tends to fluctuate depending on the brand. Both her red carpet “Vamp” strappy sandals and her navy Jimmy Choo “Georgia” pumps are in a size six.

But Kate wears Rupert Sanderson designs in sizes five, due to the brand’s recommendation to scale down.

Kate’s L.K. Bennett “Agata” sandals, which have a peep toe and a bow embellishment at the ankle, are a size 5.5.

It could be that the Princess opts to go for a size bigger in her strappy heels since she only wears them in summer.

In addition, feet-swelling during a royal engagement would be incredibly uncomfortable.

Kate isn’t the only member of the Royal Family that uses this clever hack to choose the right shoe size.

In order to minimise discomfort, it’s believed that Meghan, Duchess of Sussex also sizes up in her preferred heels.

If fans look closely at pictures of Meghan at her official engagement to Prince Harry in 2017, her shoes appeared too big for her with a gap at the heel.

HELLO!’s fashion editor Rachel Story claimed this is very common: “Celebrities often size up for red carpets or other events – mainly to avoid blisters.

“Plus, it’s all about how the shoes feel when you try them on and walk around in them, rather than sticking to what size you normally take.

“Italian shoes often run bigger – I always take a half size smaller. So that could be the case for why some styles, such as Aquazzura, are large on Meghan.”

The black court shoes Meghan wore for her Royal Ascot debut in June 2018 and her Aquazzura “Matilde” heels when she and Harry originally announced their engagement, both looked a bit too big for her.

There’s also another red carpet trick if fans want to know how Meghan and Kate walk in heels that are too large.

Ms Story added: “Some stars have been known to stuff the toe with padding like cotton wool. And then it can be taken out if you feel you need a bit more room.”
