Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, paid beautiful tribute to the Queen at the late Royal’s procession, in the form of carefully chosen jewellery.

Pinned to a black jacket was the Queen’s very own diamond and pearl leaf brooch, featuring a trio of pearls at the centre of a pave-set leaf.

This isn’t one of Queen Elizabeth II’s most well-known brooches – in fact, it’s rarely been seen.

The Queen was spotted wearing it on a yellow dress back in 1999, in Seoul, but we knew it had been passed along to Kate more recently, as the Princess of Wales donned it for a visit to Belgium.

It’s a meaningful choice not simply because the brooch belonged to the Queen, but because of the materials – pearls are often worn for mourning periods.

Adding poignancy to the moment were Kate’s choice of earrings, previously owned by Princess Diana.

Kate wore these earrings, too, in Belgium, for The Passchendaele Commemorations.

The brooch was also spotted for a Festival of Remembrance in the UK – suggesting that for Kate, this is a piece of jewellery she associates with loss, mourning, and paying tribute.

This isn’t the first time Kate has worn items gifted to her by the Queen.

She wore one of Queen Elizabeth II’s tiaras at her wedding to Prince William, a stunning Cartier halo design that held her veil in place, and at Prince Philip’s funeral last year, Kate opted to borrow the Queen’s four-row pearl choker.

And most recently, of course, Kate wore the Queen’s pearl necklace and earrings to view the monarch’s casket at Buckingham Palace.

Amid having to wear black out of respect for the Queen’s death, we think these small jewellery choices are a lovely way to bring some of Elizabeth’s brilliant style to proceedings.
