Kate stepped out in Meghans lace dress – with two major changes

Kate Middleton wore the stunning floor-length black Zarita dress by Diane von Furstenberg in November 2014 at the Royal Variety Performance, and has worn it several times since. However, she was not the first royal to try out this look. Meghan Markle wore a different version of the dress in 2012.

The whole of the dress appeared to be made from black lace, and had a scalloped neckline.

A panel across the waist cinched the Princess in and accentuated her figure.

The dress was incredibly form-fitting and the skirt was in fishtail style, tapering in and then falling into pleats.

The most noteworthy part of the dress was probably its intricate lace sleeves, which were three-quarter length.

They were predominantly sheer but boasted dainty floral patterns in back across the whole of the material.

Kate accessorised with a black snakeskin clutch, and a pair of statement diamond earrings featuring large hoops.

She wore her hair in a loose chignon and went for an evening glam makeup look, complete with bronzed cheeks and pink lipstick.

Just one month later, the thrifty royal recycled the same dress for a wedding, and it resurfaced once more in 2017 at The Anna Freud National Centre Gala Dinner.

This time she accessorised with a similar pair of diamond drop earrings and a black satin clutch.

She wore her hair down in bouncy girls, and again went for full glam makeup except this time with a pop of red lipstick.

Princess Kate clearly loved this dress, having worn it on several occasions, however she was not the first royal woman to sample the garment.

Back in 2012 – before her Duchess days – Meghan wore the same Zarita dress to a USA Network event.

However, rather than a long black number, she opted for a mini dress in navy blue, showing off her fabulous legs.

On Meghan’s Mirror, it is described as the “ultimate party dress” and one of Diane von Furstenberg’s “most popular styles”.

Just like Kate’s, this was made entirely from lace, and boasted scalloped edges and the same dainty sleeves.

These were predominantly sheer but were covered in blue floral patterns, and they were also three-quarter length.

She accessorised with nude stilettos and gold jewellery, in contrast to Kate’s diamonds.

This included a gold charm bracelet, however she did not appear to wear any earrings.

As for her hair, Meghan opted for loose, soft curls which fell over her shoulders.

Like Kate, she went for glamorous makeup, including a subtle blu eyeshadow to match the dress.
