Posting on the Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, the mum explained how she wanted to create something fun for her son on his fifth birthday.

She wrote: "Tomorrow is my son's 5th birthday and he was very disappointed that his party had been cancelled."

To make up for it, the devoted mum has spent the past three weeks assembling an assortment of games out of things she had at home.

As well as a kid-friendly dartboard, she also created a tin can alley and air target challenge.

In order to satisfy her son's sweet tooth, the creative parent even made a pick 'n' mix station and whipped up some chocolate-covered apples.

She added: "We also have apple bobbing, hook a duck and pin the peanut on the elephant."

Giving a breakdown of the price, the mum continued: "Altogether this cost about £5.

"We had the boxes, wrapping paper and art supplies already. We kept tin cans for the last few weeks."

All the mum had to pay for was the Velcro darts, ducks, sweets and a foam bullet shooting gun for the kids to play with.

Her post has racked up over 3,500 "likes" on the Facebook group as well as 200 comments from impressed parents.

"That’s brilliant! Such a lucky little boy," one wrote. He will have a blast! Well done you and happy birthday to your little boy!"

Another added: "That sounds like an ace birthday to me, loads of fun and games just ideal for 5year old. Have a brilliant time!"

A third said: "I’m absolutely loving seeing all the inventive ways that are being created to celebrate kids birthdays just like back in the days if my own kids birthdays."
