A new and realistic vegan ‘butter’ is coming to a Sainsbury’s chiller near you

Living your best plant-based life doesn’t mean you have to give up spread on your toast or sarnies.

Sainsbury’s is making it even easier for anyone looking for butter alternatives by exclusively stocking Naturli’ Organic Vegan Spreadable – an award-winning vegan butter.

The new ‘butter’ will sit alongside its dairy equivalents in the chilled isles in stores unlike other vegan/non-dairy spreads the retailer stocks that usually sit in the free-from chiller sections.

It is made with high quality ingredients including rapeseed, coconut, shea nuts and almonds to help give it a creamy texture that mimics the real thing – and it has a ‘buttery’ flavour too.

Tom Baird, Butter and Spreads Buyer at Sainsbury’s, said of the new product: “We know our consumers are increasingly seeking out 100% plant-based products which don’t compromise on taste, and this includes everything from staples such as butter and spreads through to meat alternatives.

"In June, we introduced Naturli’ Mince and Burger Patties into the meat aisle alongside real beef products and thanks to positive customer feedback we’re excited to be launching dairy-free Naturli’ Spreadable in the chilled aisle alongside real butter.”

The spread originally launched in Denmark and has fast become a big hit with shoppers, taking home several awards last year including The World Food Innovation Award and Danish Vegan Society’s Vegan Product of the Year.

The introduction of the new product follows Sainsbury’s aim to increase its vegan and vegetarian product range by 10% to cater for the 22 million flexitarians in the UK today.
