In recent days, members of the monarchy have been photographed in all-black or navy outfits to symbolise the 10-day mourning period since the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. However, a deep shade of green known formally as ‘military green’ could make a small and subtle appearance in the days and weeks to follow.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, fashion coach Miranda Holder, who is known for her viral TikTok style videos posted under the username @themirandaholder ‘Your Feel Good Fashion Coach’ explained that the colour has been used to pay homage to the Queen’s late husband Prince Philip.

Miranda explained: “We may see some military green or Edinburgh green sprinkled among [the Royal Family].

“There might be some touches in terms of a scarf or an accessory perhaps just to also remember Prince Philip, because obviously at Prince Philip’s memorial service the Queen wore green a lot.”

The Duke of Edinburgh passed away on April 9, 2021, and although those who attended his funeral wore all black, at a later thanksgiving service in 2022, the special shade of green was worn by many.

Miranda added: “This was his military colour so it was a lovely way that she could pay tribute to him.”

At the time, the monarch rallied to lead her family at the service remembering Prince Philip’s life.

The Queen, Camilla and the Princess Royal were all seen arriving at Westminster Abbey on Tuesday, March 29, wearing the dark green colour.

Queen Elizabeth wore a calf-length green coat with a black trim, as well as a pair of black gloves and a black handbag.

She also wore a dainty pair of pearl earrings which is customary during times of mourning for the Royal Family.

Princess Anne wore a dark green coat with black fabric fastenings, which she paired with a small black hat, black handbag and a pair of black gloves.

Camilla, the now-Queen Consort, wore a green coat with military-style design details.

Miranda said: “The Royal Family are absolute masters at diplomatic dressing and sending messages through their clothing, which the Queen taught them.

“She was the very first one to absolutely master the art of this and made it into an art form during her reign.

“She’s left this legacy behind her that the other royals can only hope to get to similar levels of just how adept she was at doing it.

“She was fantastic at making everyone feel welcome and loved it acknowledged.

“So they have a hard act to follow in this but I’m sure we will be seeing references throughout the funeral and the mourning period.”
