Selena Gomez has early access to Barbie’s winter wardrobe, and her outfit on the Dec. 10 episode of “Saturday Night Live” is proof that hot pink platform heels are always in style. During a surprise appearance in Steve Martin and Martin Short’s “Father of the Bride” sketch, Gomez joined her “Only Murders in the Building” costars as the family’s wedding singer. “Oh my god, Selena Gomez? You’re even more beautiful in real life,” Heidi Gardner said as the bride. Smiling, Gomez flipped her high ponytail over her off-the-shoulder Valentino sweater and replied, “Yeah, I know. Thanks.”
Serving an unexpected twist to the Barbiecore trend, the “Lose You to Love Me” singer’s mohair sweater was embroidered with rows of dazzling sequins that evoked a sense of holiday cheer. She paired the seasonal piece with an embroidered mohair miniskirt that peeked out just below the hem of her oversized Valentino sweater. Gomez also wore the brand’s fuchsia tights, a pair of 7-inch Discobox Patent Leather Platform Pumps, and 2-inch Law Hoops in gold by Jennifer Fisher Jewelry. The finished look, which came in at over $12,000, gave winter Barbie on her way to the chicest holiday party in town — in this case, the “SNL” afterparty.
Gomez, who is currently working on her fourth studio album, is one of several celebrities to wear the Valentino pink trend this year, including Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Dua Lipa and Lana Condor. While her appearance in the “SNL” skit was brief, Gomez’s fluorescent ensemble is one we’ll have on our style radars all season long.
Last month, the singer walked the red carpet at the “My Mind & Me” premiere in Hollywood in a purple silk gown by Rodarte. She paired the asymmetrical dress with a rectangular clutch embellished with crystals and shimmering, pointed-toe mules.
