A FAMILY-OF-FOUR who live proudly off-grid have revealed they let their children sleep outside even when it’s freezing.
Teacher Rachael and tree surgeon Fraser live in a woodland with their two children, Grace and Albie, and their two dogs.
Their home is a caravan and yard that is powered through solar panels and an energy generator.
They regularly share updates on their YouTube channel teaching others how to go off-grid.
According to Rachael, off-grid for their family means not being connected to any public utilities like water, electricity, main gas and a telephone line.
The couple have built everything in the woodland, based in Lancashire, themselves – including building their generator and rain water filters – but find it most challenging in the winter.

However, they wrap their tots up warm and let them sleep outside when it’s cold outside because it’s “the best way”.
The mum-of-two said in a video about living off-grid in winter: “I have to say that it’s absolutely beautiful here at the moment.
“And I was saying to Fraser that I think this is the most beautiful I’ve ever seen the land look.
“So, we’ve been outside enjoying it today.

“The children are currently having an outdoor nap.
“I think some people get a bit worried about children napping outside in this temperature but we’ve wrapped them up well.
“We really do believe that it’s one of the best ways for them to nap – and they really love it.”
Rachael also shut down trolls that said she “moans a lot” and “doesn’t seem very happy about their life choices”, assuring: “That isn’t the case at all.
“When we decided to document our off-grid life, we promised each other that we would keep it real.”
The couple dig their own trenches, collect and filter their own rain water and hope to become self-sufficient on their land.
As the cost of living and energy bills rocketed this winter, they set themselves a challenge to power their home purely through solar panels.
They said: “Our goal has been to go through the winter without using our generator, relying solely on solar power.
“While we didn't make it through the whole winter, with the increase in daylight and improved weather we're excited to share how it's going at the moment.”
Solar panels work by absorbing sunlight and converting it into energy to power things.
For Rachael and Fraser, it is to power their woodland home.
The couple decided to go off-grid three years ago, using a piece of land that Fraser bought for £15,500 22-years-ago.

The 4.5 acre plot was initially bought as storage space for his tree surgery business, but they soon began harvesting and growing trees on it to turn it into their dream off-grid home.
The pair had been living in a bungalow before making the move.
