THE IRISH film wold mourned after the passing of actor Ray Stevenson who starred in popular films like RRR, Thor, and Divergent.

Following his death on May 21, 2023, the 58-year-old is set to have a tribute in the upcoming Star Wars series Asoka.

Who was Ray Stevenson?

George Raymond Stevenson – professionally known as Ray Stevenson – was born on May 25, 1964, in Lisburn, Northern Ireland.

He attended the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and he made his film debut in The Theory of Flight in 1998. 

The actor had many credits to his name including King Arthur (2004), Punisher: War Zone (2008), The Three Musketeers (2011), and Kill The Irishman (2011), RRR (2022).

Aside from the first three Thor films, in which he played Volstagg, he also appeared in the Divergent trilogyMarcus, G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013) and The Transporter: Refuelled (2015).

Stevenson also did voice work in Star Wars Rebels and The Clone Wars, as Gar Saxon.

Before passing away, Stevenson had been cast in the historical drama, 1242: Gateway To The West, for a role that was originally going to be played by Kevin Spacey.

The actor's net worth was estimated to be £6.4million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

On Sunday, May 21, 2023, Stevenson passed away – just days before his 59th birthday.

His cause of death has yet to be revealed.

However, the beloved actor could have been suffering from an illness before his death.

Reports from The New Zealand Herald claim the beloved actor contracted a "mystery illness."

But these reports have NOT been verified by Stevenson's family.

Was Ray Stevenson married?

Stevenson tied the knot with English actress Ruth Gemmell in 1997.

After an eight-year marriage, the pair ended up divorcing in 2005.

Gemmell is widely recognized for her role in the hit Netflix show, Bridgerton, as well as for being a kids' TV legend, starring as Tracy Beaker’s mum.

She and Stevenson did not have any children together during their relationship.

The Marvel actor had been dating Elisabetta Caraccia for years.
