But pregnant Meghan Markle was left stumbling along the beach on day three of her tour Down Under earlier today – in a pair of ballet pumps.
The 37-year-old Duchess of Sussex and her husband Prince Harry, 34, were joining barefoot lifeguards, all dressed in shorts, for a beach clean-up in Melbourne.
Meghan ditched her nude heels for a pair of black pointed flats by Rothy's, costing £79, and clutched Harry's hand as she walked across the sand.
Before marrying into the royal family, Meghan described "jean shorts and flip-flops as my daily uniform", according to Hello!
But she hasn't worn her go-to shoes since becoming a royal, and there's a very good reason why.
And it's not just sandals on the banned list, open-toed heels are considered uncouth too.
Kate Middleton, 36, is rarely seen without her signature court shoes – while Meghan recently tried her hand at netball in a pair of 4 inch heels.
Despite opting for 'casual' flat shoes, Meghan still pulled out the stops with a designer heavy outfit costing £2,439.
Her beach dress was Club Monaco's Miguellina black number, costing £325.26, which Meghan paired with a £1230 beige trench coat from Martin Grant's SS19 resort collection, and a Gucci mini chain bag costing £805.
Here's what Meghan and Harry got up to on day three of their royal tour.
