When it comes to brightening your base, it's universally accepted within the skincare world that using a good vitamin C serum is one of the best ways to achieve glowing skin. The powerful antioxidant boasts a wealth of skin-transforming benefits and combats dullness, fine lines, skin damage, uneven skin tone and signs of ageing – hence why it's so trendy.
Often touted by dermatologists as one of the "must have" components of your skincare routine, there's a vitamin C out there to suit all skin types. But with so much on the market, it’s hard to know what formula will work best for you. With that in mind, we've been busy putting some of the best vitamin C serums to the test, all in a bid to help you decide on the right product for you.
Here's how these new and hero launches fared in with our testers…
Best vitamin C skincare products for 2022
L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Clinical 12% Pure Vitamin C + E + Salicylic Serum, currently on sale for £14.99 here
Tester Megan says: “Wow! I use vitamin C products a lot because I like the way they make my skin glow. But I've never used a product that has worked so quickly. After the first week, my skin looked radiant and my skin tone even. I normally have red blemishes and I didn't after using the first week. My friend said it looked like I'd given my skin a drink! It's great finding a product that works well, is full of amazing ingredients, but doesn't break the bank.” 5/5
Shiseido Waso Yuzu-C Glow-On Shot, £39 here
Tester Sarah says: “This felt like I’d slid a silken cover over my skin! I have been using this product for nearly a month, and I can truthfully say that my skin feels, and looks, more youthful than it did before. I met a friend for coffee last week, and nearly the first thing she said was how well I was looking! My skin definitely looks fresher, and there are fewer blemishes than before. I would buy it, because I would like my skin to carry on looking this good.” 5/5
Elemis Dynamic Resurfacing Super-C Serum, £95 here
Tester Yvonne says: “I have lots of pigmentation spots on my dark skin and have often wondered if there is a miracle in a bottle that can fix my problematic, dull skin. This is that miracle. It is absolutely wonderful for my skin! Amazing results over four weeks. It definitely works and has given me a healthy glow, and much more even skin tone! I'm an Afro/Caribbean lady who has always been conscious of dark under eye pigmentation shadows – this has really reduced them. My skin looks great and I sincerely want my tube of serum to last forever!" 5/5
Garnier Vitamin C Brightening Serum, currently on sale for £7.99 here
Tester Sue says: “This serum has a pleasant light scent, and it was easy to use. It absorbed quickly and within a few days my skin looked smoother and dark spots already looked slightly paler and not so noticeable to me. I would definitely buy this product because it did what it was meant to do.” 5/5
Caudalie Vinergetic C+ Vitamin C Energy Serum, £39.99 here
Tester Karyn says: “I've been using this serum for a couple of months now and I am extremely impressed by the condition of my skin now. It feels smooth and fresh, and appears more radiant, with less noticeable dark circles and hyperpigmentation. People have commented consistently on my general skin appearance since I began using this. It’s worth the investment, given the results.” 5/5
Glow Recipe Strawberry Smooth BHA + AHA Salicylic Serum, £36 here
Tester says: "I'm a big fan of Glow Recipe's Plum Plump Serum so I was excited to try this new launch. I've been getting breakouts along my jawline and cheeks, making my skin texture look quite bumpy. Within two days of using this, I found those little spots had started to clear up, and my overall texture felt a lot smoother. I won't use this everyday – I have sensitive skin – but I will be using it a few times each week." 4/5
The Inkey List 15% Vitamin C and EGF Serum, £14.99 here
Tester says: "I used it as part of my night-time regime before my regular night cream. On application it feels like a mask, it has a tightening effect on the face which I loved and I definitely think my skin now looks brighter after using it for a month. Although it says it's gentle enough for daily use, I think every other day would be better for sensitive skin." 4/5
Murad Vita-C Glycolic Brightening Serum, £75 here
Tester says: "I loved this right from my first use. It made my skin more hydrated and glowy, and in under a week my skin texture looked so much smoother. I use it religiously every morning and I’ve had compliments on my skin a few times. I dread the day I run out!" 5/5
Sanctuary Spa Vitamin C 20% Daily Glow Serum, £16.50 here
Tester says: "Made my skin feel a little tingly at first but luckily I’d read on the pack that this was normal. I loved the smooth, silky feel it gave, and my skin definitely looked brighter right away. This serum plus face SPF is now my morning skin regime – I’m addicted!" 4/5
Boots Vitamin C Brightening Sleeping Mask, £4.50 here
Tester says: "Ok so it's not a serum but I must give it an honourable mention as it’s honestly the best thing I’ve ever used. The morning after I first used the cream, my skin looked really bright and like I had a holiday glow. The orange scent is lovely, and the formula isn’t greasy at all so sinks in and makes my skin feel so soft. I don’t want to use anything else now!" 5/5
