SHOPPERS are going wild for a bargain way to make Subway sandwiches at home.

They are recreating the classic snack but using Aldi ingredients.

Aldi is selling cheese and herb, wholegrain and Italian style bread rolls for just 89p a packet – just like you'd find in Subway.

You should be able to order them online or find them in stores – but be quick. Shoppers are raving about how good they are.

Foodies have been raving about the find on Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK.

In a post about making a bargain-friendly version of the Subway BMT they said: "Will never buy Subway again after making our own Italian BMT on cheese & herbs rolls from Aldi for a fraction of the price."

She continued: "It tasted exactly the same, if not better, and the bread is super soft. Added cucumber, red onion and pepper as well."

Other commenters were just as excited. One said: "Been doing this for a while now and so much prefer my own than Subway – and so much cheaper!!!"

And another said: "Woow! I didn't know about this bread! Going to Aldi today."

Alongside the popular lunch rolls, the shopper used these in her sandwich:

• Iceberg lettuce – 55p
• Pepperoni – 85p
• Calabria ham – £1.09
• Peri Peri mayo – 69p
• Salami and smoked cheese selection – £1.79

Altogether, it costs just £5.86 – and you can get more than one serving out of the items

That's compared to Subway, who charge £5.89 for just one Footlong BMT.

The lunch rolls come in packets of four, so you can enjoy four tasty sandwiches for under the price of one.

To compare, Tesco also sell finger rolls for 80p. These come in a pack of six, but keep in mind they're smaller and they're only available on white bread and not the popular Subway style flavours like Aldi's.

Morrisons sell a pack of four deli rolls for £1. There's also a seeded version available for the same price, but these comes in packs of two.

You can also find some multi-seed Vienna rolls at Sainsbury's. You get four for £1.

Always keep in mind ingredients too – if you're saving money, you'll want to make sure you get the best deal with the filling too.

Make sure you scout around for that – remember Tesco often have Clubcard deals on and you might find offers elsewhere only in store.

But you don't have to stop at just BMT either – there are other Subway favourites that could be replicated, if you fancy it.

For example, the Spicy Italian is similar to the BMT – just without the ham – but you can play around and make it your own.

And Subway sandwiches aren't the only dupe done by Aldi – last year, they sold a sausage and bean melt which was a whopping 72% cheaper than Greggs.

This year, they even sold their own McDonald's Big Mac, complete with breakfast hash browns.

It cost just £1.49 compared to £3.19 in McDonald's itself.
