Pack-et in! Fashion fans left baffled as luxury designer Balenciaga teases release of a £1,600 clutch bag that looks like a bag of crisps
- Fashion house Balenciaga is releasing leather bag that looks like packet of crisps
- Each bag costs a whopping £1,600 and comes in a strange variety of ‘flavours’
- The Spanish fashion brand has history of creating wild and controversial pieces
- Earlier this month it made models strut down the catwalk through a sea of mud
Balenciaga has once again baffled fashion fans by teasing the release of a line of leather bags designed to look like crisp packets.
The bags were made in partnership with Lays, the European version of Walkers crisps, and according to the fashion Instagram account Diet Prada, could cost £1,600 each.
The luxury Spanish fashion house has a history of quirky choices, from thousand-dollar jackets that look similar to high-vis security outfits to runways covered in heaps of mud.
Fashion fans begged the luxury designer brand to stop releasing quirky products as social media users flocked to mock the brand’s latest peculiar product.
The bag was first teased in June, before it made its way onto the SS23 Balenciaga runway, which was opened by Kanye West and models wading through a muddy catwalk. It is unknown when it will be released to the public.

One called for the fashion house to ‘stop please’, while another joked ‘Balenciaga is becoming unhealthy’.
A third described the product as ‘the lowest depths of crass commercialism’.
Balenciaga already raised eyebrows earlier this month after rapper Kanye West joined other models to trudge through mud while sporting the fashion house’s latest designs at their Paris Fashion Week show.
Models strutted as if they were on a grim powerwalk through a wet field.
Fans have questioned whether the bags are really as hot, as the fashion brand might think they are

Social media users were baffled by the showcase, with some saying it was like a ‘social experiment gone wrong’.
One tweeted: ‘Imagine being a part of the Balenciaga ss23 and realising you have to walk in mud.’
One joked: ‘Balenciaga having a mud fashion show, I know it smells crazy in there.’
Another wrote: ‘The photos from the Balenciaga mud show are awful!’
Social media users were quick to mock the outlandish bag – which is rumoured to cost a whopping £1,600 to buy, even though it looks like a packet of crisps
Meanwhile, the company was mocked last year for its £2,890 hi-vis ‘construction worker’ padded parka that was released as part of its autumn/winter 21 collection.
Shoppers were quick to ridicule the piece on social media.
People said the jackets looked like a ‘parking attendant’s uniform’ or ‘something Bob the Builder’ would wear.
