Britons love to shop around for the best supermarket deals, especially in the midst of a cost of living crisis. But it has now been revealed which supermarket offers the ultimate bargain.
The latest research from consumer group Which? has found Aldi to be the UK’s cheapest supermarket for the 15th consecutive month.
Their price comparison looks at the cost of a basket of items, including groceries and household essentials.
The research found that in August 2023, Aldi was £14.30 cheaper than Waitrose (the most expensive supermarket) for an equivalent basket of items.
Speaking about the results, Aldi said: “As families face the added expense of getting children ready to go back to school or university, all whilst trying to keep household costs down, Aldi shoppers can be confident they’re getting the highest quality products at the best possible prices – month in, month out.”

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi, stated: “As summer draws to a close and families begin preparing to go back to school or university, August and September can represent financially challenging months for many.
“However, with 15 consecutive months as the UK’s cheapest supermarket, families can rest assured that they can rely on us for great quality products at the lowest possible prices, and that we’ll continue to support our customers in these testing times.”
And to add to more good news for Aldi customers, the cheapest supermarket has lowered the price on a range of fruit and vegetables.
Speaking about this initiative, Julie said: “Every week we are working hard to make new savings to pass on to our customers and help ensure we always offer them the lowest grocery prices.”
