ONE lucky Brit came out on top last night, winning a staggering £195 million, could it be you?

The winning EuroMillions numbers were 06, 23, 27, 40, 41 – plus the Lucky Star numbers 02 and 12.

The prize pot had reached the maximum amount permitted by the National Lottery, making the £195 million the highest ever recorded Euromillions prize.

This lucky Brit now becomes the biggest ever lottery winner, surpassing Joe and Jess Thwaite who won £184 million in May 2022.

Once the winner has been discovered, the process is quite simple.

An official will call the winner, head over to their house to answer any questions, and then the money can be paid!

The recipient of this prize will now be richer than Adele, and have enough money to purchase a number of Premier League football clubs.

    Can lottery winners remain anonymous?

Publicity is only a choice, so if you want to remain anonymous, you can.

Andy said: "All winners are anonymous.

"This is the default position for all lottery winners.

"It's entirely the winner's decision if they want to share the news of their win.

"We have an aftercare programme in place to ensure that all winners have access to legal and financial advice.

"Sometimes we go to a winner's home and we've already had media enquiries before we even get there because the winner wants to celebrate their win and mark it publicly.

"Often the rule of thumb tends to be the higher the amount of money the more likely the winner will be to take publicity."

Some of the lottery winners who decided to go public are Joe and Jess Thwaite who won the £184 million jackpot.

In 2011, Colin and Chris Weir also went public with their £161 million winnings while in 2019, Frances and Patrick Connolly started the year by cashing in £114.9 million.

How long do I have to wait to receive the money if I win the lottery?

When they visit your home, they will carry out some checks to verify that you are the true winner.

While making sure that the winning ticket is valid, the team will also make sure that they answer any questions that you might have as a winner.

Andy said: "Within half an hour I can tell if someone has won the money.

"Sometimes we get to people's houses and we don't even open the computer for an hour because we just sit there and answer people's questions.

"This could sometimes last all day."

Once all the checks have been made and the ticket is verified then the winners can receive the money from the Lottery on that very same day.

Once the payment is made, at least two days need to be given for the money to process in the bank account.

How do lottery winners get contacted?

Once you make the call, expect to receive a phone call back from a person like Andy, who will help you throughout your whole journey.

They will call you as soon as they find out that you are the EuroMillions winner.

During the call, they will plan a visit to meet with you in person, either the next day or whenever you can.

What happens when you win the EuroMillions lottery?

Andy Carter spoke to Metro on what really happens when one finds out about the life-changing win.

Andy is a Senior Winner's Advisor at Camelot and has been helping people that become millionaires overnight for more than 13 years.

The first thing to do after you finish celebrating your win is to turn over your ticket and find the phone number which you're supposed to ring.

Andy said: "If you were to win the EuroMillions tomorrow night, you would check the ticket, ring the number on the back of the ticket and that would put you through to a lottery line.

"They would then get a member of the my team to call you back."

From here, the process to claim your prize money begins.

HAPPY WITH OUR LOTT Lottery winners with surprisingly normal lives

What would you do if you won the lottery? For some humble folk, it just means continuing on with life as it was.

While some winners quit their day-to-day to party in lavish mansions and race supercars, others opt to stay in their jobs as dinner ladies, supermarket shelf-stackers and plumbers.

From driving second-hand Volvos to staying put in the family's council house, we look at the lucky winners who chose a more modest existence.

Trish Emson still lives in her family’s old council house and has kept her job as a dinner lady, despite raking in £1.8million from the lottery in 2003.

The down-to-earth mum, who is in her fifties, said she would be “bored to tears” without her beloved job serving up meals to primary school children.

She has also kept up her frugal habits, driving a Kia and shopping in Primark.

Camelot to lose Lottery license, but have called for an appeal to the decision

Earlier this year, the long-time lottery operator, Camelot, had its license revoked, as Allwyn UK took on the responsibility.

However, Camelot and IT service IGT will make the appeal on 12 September.

Justin King, chairman of Allwyn UK, called on Camelot and IGT to “gracefully accept” the original High Court ruling in the interests of the good causes that benefit from the National Lottery.

Who could you be richer than if you won?

Winners of the current prize could dwarf the reported fortunes of stars including Tyson Fury, who has around £150million in the bank.

And the lucky punter could even eclipse Grammy-winner Adele‘s riches of £190million.

At the moment the UK’s biggest winners are Joe and Jess Thwaite.

The couple won £184million in May, and despite the vast wealth they’d received, opted to buy a second-hand Volvo.

For winnings of £50,000 and over, you should call the National Lottery to arrange for your claim to be processed in person.

    Is Euromillions tax-free?

When it comes to cash prizes, you also have to think about whether they would be taxed.

Your winnings should not be taxed but when they are considered as income or you start making income through interest, then these might be taxed.

The EuroMillions website says: “While there is no tax on the initial sum paid into your account, it may be that the win starts to produce an income through interest.

“This will then be taxed as part of your normal income tax.”

The advisor that the Lottery assign to you will help you with any tax issues or questions that you might have.

    Can lottery winners remain anonymous?

Some lottery winners are keen for the world to know of their wealth, but others would rather keep their lives private.

But do you have a choice?

You won’t believe the most common purchase made by lottery winners

What would buy with £191 million? A flash car? A mansion? A luxury Holiday?

Well, according to UK’s Lottery operator, Camelot, none of these are the most common purchase made by the lucky winners.

More than a third, 37 per cent, of big winners of the National Lottery have forked out for the ultimate garden gadget – a ride-on mower, according to a Camelot survey.

One of the couples who chose to spend the big bucks on this Garden gadget are Wayne and Desiree Home, who won £1m in back in 2015.

Wayne said: “I have to be honest, before the win a ride-on mower wasn’t on my wish list, top of the list at the time was a motorbike but when I sit back and survey my perfect lawn, it does bring me almost as much joy as a motorbike might have.

“After the win we moved house and while our home was only slightly bigger our garden was supersized, so much so the house came with its own ride-on mower to manage the ¾ acre of lawn.

“The original model was quickly traded in for a ride-on that had every single gadget and gizmo but was more tractor than ride-on mower so I’ve recently downgraded to a more sedate and manageable model.

“Mowing the lawn is now something of a ritual for me, a ritual which takes place for two hours, alternate weekends, for seven months of the year.”

One winner bagged £105 million, but still insists on driving his wife’s old car.

Steve and Lenka Thomson moved into a swanky new sprawling pad, and splashed the cash on some seriously fancy new cars.

They now own three Range Rovers, one Tesla and a bright green Lamborghini.

Steve just can’t let go of his wife’s old second hand Volvo, according to neighbours, who told The Sun he gave a lot of his winnings away.
