We all want to be cosy and warm this winter, and you may be about to get cosier.
That's because an expert has said millions of Brits are entitled to a brand new boiler, which will save you a lot of money if yours has been a bit hit and miss lately. The UK government is offering insulation grants at no cost to households nationwide, and you could be entitled to bag the offer.
Catherine Storer, a heating expert, said there are simple ways Brits can check if they are eligible. It's worth doing, as you may be entitled to a freebie.

She said: "As we approach the colder months, it's crucial for homeowners to ensure their heating systems are efficient and cost-effective. Fortunately, many Brits might be eligible for a free boiler through government schemes like the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) and the Great British Insulation Scheme.
"To check your eligibility, you can take a few straightforward steps. Firstly, I recommend visiting the government's online eligibility checker.
"This user-friendly platform requires you to fill in a simple form, which takes only a few minutes. It will ask for basic information about your household, such as income and energy usage."
The expert continued: "If you're on a low income, with a total household income under £31,000 per year, you can contact your energy supplier directly to inquire about your eligibility. They can provide specific information tailored to your circumstances.
"Additionally, you should be aware of your home's Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating. Homes with an EPC rating of D to G are often prioritised for these schemes, as they stand to benefit the most from improved heating efficiency.
"It's also worth noting that if you don't meet the criteria for a free boiler, you shouldn't be discouraged. Other grants and schemes are available, such as the Home Upgrade Grant, particularly for those off the main gas grid. Contacting your local council can provide more information about these alternatives."
She also said it's useful to keep your email address or phone number handy, as this will be needed for your energy supplier to contact you if you’re eligible. Improving your home’s heating system not only makes your living space more comfortable, but also contributes to reducing overall energy consumption and carbon emissions.
