Fantasy football Premier League: Here are last season’s best players and highest point scorers

IT certainly took longer than we expected but the Premier League season is finally done and dusted.

Don’t worry though, the new season will probably be up and running again by the time you finish reading this – with the 2020/21 campaign set to kick-off on September 12.

Until then, let’s have a look at which players really stood out on Dream Team this season.

So as of the final Game Week of the season, this lot would set you back £54.6m – which is just a whisker more than your allocated budget.

Predictably, it’s jam-packed with the usual suspects from title winners Liverpool and runners up Man City – but there’s perhaps a couple of surprise names in there, too.

See the squad in full below.

Why you should play Dream Team this season

  • It’s completely free to play
  • Play the tradtional Season game as well as Draft
  • There’s a hefty jackpot up for grabs across 2020/21

Last season’s best players and highest point scorers

In the end it was Nick Pope who finished up as the best keeper on Dream Team, edging Ederson (116 points) and long-time leader Dean Henderson (107 points) with his total of 121 points.

Pope’s brilliance between the sticks has been the foundation of Burnley’s success this term, with the England international keeping 15 clean sheets.

His usefulness on Dream Team was somewhat overlooked though, with only 2.1% of managers selecting him in the final Game Week of the campaign.

Harry Maguire backed-up his summer price tag with a solid debut season with Man United.

The slab-headed centre-back picked up the most points of any defender on Dream Team, played every minute of every game for United’s Premier League campaign, and proved popular on our game – with around 33% of managers picking him.

He’s joined by title-winning Liverpool duo Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, with Andrew Robertson missing out on a top three spot with 170 points, while Matt Doherty (169) and Aaron Wan-Bissaka (164) will have to make do with a place in our top five.

Let’s be honest… there’s not really any surprise names in our midfield.

In fact, it’s the same midfield that made our ‘team of the season so far’ piece back in December.

Raheem Sterling and Sadio Mane were by-far the two best goal-scoring midfielders on Dream Team, while Kevin De Bruyne scored more points than anyone else and is undoubtedly one of the players of the season (don’t want to get controversial now, do we?).

Regular Dream Team favourite Riyad Mahrez’s place in the team is rather pleasing and shows just how important he’s become to Pep Guardiola’s line-up.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s excellent run out in the FA Cup meant he finished up the season as our second-best striker on the game.

Few of us will be surprised to know that Mohamed Salah finished top of the lot, with the Egyptian typically brilliant throughout the fantasy football campaign and instrumental to Liverpool’s first Premier League title.

In contrast, Gabriel Jesus is a name that might’ve surprised a few of you, certainly as he outscored his teammate Sergio Aguero (184).

While rarely dazzling, the Brazilian was consistent throughout the year… but his tally was boosted somewhat by some stellar individual performances – notably the 28 points he bagged against Dinamo Zagreb in December.
