Four high-tech facials you need on your radar for 2023: From EmFace to Forma RF

If your New Year’s resolution is to invest more in your skin, you’re probably doing a bit of research into the best ways to get a glowier, younger-looking complexion. Filler isn’t for everyone, and luckily there’s a whole new breed of high-tech facials promising to lift sagging skin, combat fine lines and wrinkles and tighten jowls using radiofrequency, microneedling and electrical stimulation.

Previously reserved for celebrities, high-tech facials have reached the mass market, and many of the A-list loved treatments can now be found in clinics nationwide. So if you’re ready to book in for something a bit more punchy than a spa facial, here are the top treatments set to trend in 2023…

EmFace

Where:Dr Nyla Medispa Mayfair

Cost: From around £1,000 per session

What’s the deal?

This facial laser treatment has recently hit our shores fresh from the US, and it targets muscles and skin simultaneously to tighten, lift and tone the face. It does this with high-intensity facial electrical stimulation (HIFES), which works, with repeat sessions, to reduce fine lines and wrinkles by up to 37%. Celebs like Rebel Wilson and Jessica Simpson have previously spoken about their love for EmFace.

Number of sessions needed for the best results: around 3-4, spaced 7-10 days apart

Forma RF

Where:Dr Tatiana Clinic, select clinics nationwide

Cost: From around £250 per session

What’s the deal?

This isn’t a brand new facial, but because so many celebrities post about it – including various Kardashians, and Eva Longoria just last month – it feels very current. It’s a non-surgical, non-invasive downtime-free treatment offering results from the first session. It uses radio-frequency (delivered via a heated wand) to banish wrinkles, stimulate collagen production and improve skin elasticity for a more youthful appearance.

Number of sessions needed for the best results: 5-6, spaced 7-10 days apart

UltraCell Q+ Face

Where:Natali Kelly London, select clinics nationwide

Cost: From around £600 per session

What's the deal?

Another non-surgical, skin-tightening treatment, but using high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) to target the deeper layers of the skin that are only usually accessible with a surgical procedure. This treatment stimulates the growth of fresh, new collagen to lift and tighten the skin with no surface damage or downtime. Results will show gradually over the course of three months and last for up to a year.

Number of sessions needed for the best results: 1-2. If a second is needed, it shouldn’t be booked before three months after the first session

RF Microneedling

Where:Halcyon Aesthetics London, select clinics nationwide

Cost: From around £800 per session

What’s the deal?

This facial combines microneedling with radiofrequency to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, improve the appearance of pores and skin texture and eliminate acne scars. It can be used on the face and neck, and comes with little downtime. Since microneedling uses tiny needles to puncture the top layer of skin (nothing is injected; it’s all very superficial), some numbing cream is applied to the areas being treated. The added radiofrequency helps to stimulate collagen production, so this facial is a two-pronged attack on pores and signs of ageing.

Number of sessions needed for the best results: 3-4, spaced 3-5 weeks apart. Upkeep sessions may be needed every six months.
