Rain or shine, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association will celebrate the 2023 Golden Globes, executive producer and showrunner Dionne Harmon revealed to Variety. “This weather dealt us a hand,” she said.
Speaking via Zoom from the Beverly Hilton, Harmon continued, “We had plans to do these beautiful arches, and it was a refresh of the carpet that you hadn’t seen before.” After monitoring the weather and with rain on the forecast, Harmon said the decision was made to put a tent over the carpet. “That meant we wouldn’t be able to do the arches,” but she plans to use them next year.
Harmon added the carpet will not be red: “The carpet is a beautiful gray color that goes with the new palette for the year, which is blush tones and coral.” She went on to say, “You’ll be enclosed in a big tent, so no one should be worried. They will get out of their car to a dry, warm place.”
As for inside the ballroom, Harmon said the design would pay homage to the history of the show. She and fellow producer Jesse Collins enlisted designer Brian Stonestreet to bring his expertise to the production design.
“We looked back at the Ciro’s nightclub on Sunset Boulevard, which is now home to The Comedy Store and where the show happened many years ago, and we used that as inspiration…It’s like a modern supper club with a nod to old Hollywood. When you walk in, you feel like you’re in this swanky supper club. Everyone will walk in and feel relaxed and celebratory.”
Known for the free-flowing champagne during the ceremony, Harmon said Moet & Chandon are back as sponsors. Said Harmon, “There will be beautiful big magnums of Moet on each table so the champagne will be flowing.”
