The King has not altered Harry and Andrew’s positions in the line of succession. For the sake of everyone, William might consider his travel arrangements in future – or ask his dad to change the succession rules.

But what would Tony have thought of the Reverend Bragg declaring: ‘We will have the Our Father or Our Mother as you please.’

Tony, a Shakespeare biographer, would have chuckled at his son Joe ending his overlong address with his favourite joke about Will being ordered out of a pub. Asked for an explanation, the publican declared: ‘You’re Bard.’
