Neighbours spoilers follow for Thursday’s (October 5) episode that is now available to stream on Amazon Freevee.
Harold Bishop’s (Ian Smith) wellbeing has been the subject of much concern since Neighbours’ new chapter commenced last month, with the Ramsay Street icon suffering from severe bouts of memory loss.
The Aussie soap stalwart, as fans will know, told Karl Kennedy (Alan Fletcher) that he ‘can’t make it stop’, confiding his fears in the doctor, who resolved to get to the bottom of it all by ordering some tests.
Harold was grateful for such support from his loved ones, though he’s been on tenterhooks ever since, eager to know what it is that’s behind his difficulty in retaining information, fearing the worst.
The former cafe owner’s mind, however, was put at rest in Thursday’s offering of the Freevee soap, with test results officially ruling out dementia or Alzheimers, much to his relief.
The reason for his memory loss remained a mystery – that is, until he accidentally dropped his medication in the cafe, with Remi Varga-Murphy (Naomi Rukavina) coming to his aid to help him pick up the pills.
‘How long have you been taking these?’, she asked, her interest piqued by one of the tablets.
‘A couple of months’ responded Harold, revealing that a new doctor had changed his blood pressure medication.
Remi, taken aback, revealed that this particular type of medication can have ‘serious side effects’ when mixed with other medications, confirming that it’s likely that Harold’s memory issues are directly related to this.

The news came as a relief to Harold.
Karl, however, was left upset, believing that he’d ‘failed’ his friend given that he didn’t pick up on this sooner.
Harold was quick to reassure Karl that this wasn’t the case, thankful for everything that he’s done. The Ramsay Street icon branded the whole ordeal a ‘wake up call’ for him as he looked to the future, contemplating what’s next.
