Home Alone fans baffled by young actors accent in brand new film

Fans of the Disney classic Home Alone will be all too familiar with Kevin McAllister and the clan, where the all-American family's youngest son is played by Macaulay Culkin.

Of course, that era is long gone, and last year we saw Disney+ announce a fresh reboot of the much-loved film franchise.

This week, the much-awaited trailer of the new film, called Home Sweet Home Alone, was released, and it's definitely grabbed everyone's attention.

This is down to a series of significant changes to the Christmas film, which was to be expected so many years on from the originals.

Instead of Kevin and his family, we've been introduced to lead character Max, who is played by Brit actor Archie Yates.

Huge Hollywood stars Ellie Kemper and Rob Delaney have also been cast in the reboot as a couple called Pam and Jeff, who have replaced the robbers from the original films.

However, this wasn't what threw the trailer's viewers, but rather the lead character's accent.

Given the very American setting for the film, and that the majority of the actors are from the US, fans were baffled when the lead character spoke with a strong English accent.

Twitter has been flooded with Tweets from people wanting to clear up the confusion.

"Wait.. I'm confused," wrote one American fan, adding "So Kevin McAllister is British now????

"Then I'll be watching "Home Sweet Home Alone" with crumpets & a cup of tea. #HomeSweetHomeAlone".

Another added: "EH? Why does he sound British???".

Whilst some were excited for the UK twist, there were plenty of angry fans.

One seethed: "There’s no f*cking way Disney went and made a British reboot of Home Alone".

Max's accent is due to a more complex backstory to the film, as he is half-British, raised in the UK.

His mum is played by Aisling Bea, and that side of his family is English.

The 10 year old is left in the huge family home in America after his dad and the rest of the family jet off to Tokyo, and just like the film we all know and love, we can look forward to some serious twist and turns.

Despite us missing out on most of the original film's actors, there will be one returning character.

This is Kevin's original older brother, Buzz, played by Devin Ratray, who returns as a policeman in the new film.

The new film is released on Disney+ on November 12, so not long to go!
