A 'horned' tattoo artist with 85% of his body inked is in the running to become a politician.
Carlos Dehaquiz ,from Duitama, Colombia, certainly doesn't look like the usual type to be part of the government. The ink-enthusiast has spent years modifying his body with the permanent markings – eyeballs included – and silicone dermal implants.
Although, the young man is not going to let his eccentric appearance hinder his career aspirations. In a recent video to his thousands of TikTok followers, Carlos shared his interest in politics and said that he wants to part of his Duitama City Council by running as a candidate for the New Liberalism Party.

Despite his eagerness to be a politician, Carlos has previously received rejection from hardcore conservative sectors of the Colombian society. The ink-mad bloke is aware of this, but urged that politics is not a 'beauty contest'.
"I know that my appearance is a bit transgressive for people because I have been in the world of art my whole life, dedicating myself to the tattoo industry, body modification, massive events related to art, not only body art but all artistic, sports, and cultural branches," Carlos told a local media outlet.
"I am like this because I had a strong attachment to tattoos since I was a child. People like me, who transform ourselves this way, do it because we have a taste for this culture, and our work allows us to transform.
"We don't do this to look like anyone else or follow a trend; it's simply our love for art. This isn't a fad; it has been around for many years, but we do it as a form of artistic expression."
It seems that Carlos has whipped up some support already from his loved ones and fans. Carlos is aware that there are still plenty of 'taboos' about tattoos and understands he gives off a "striking" first impression. But, he is hopeful that he is able to convince the general public that he will be the right candidate to represent the city.
The artist wants others to refrain from judging him on the basis of his physical appearance, and instead focus on the good that he can do. Carlos expressed: "Physical appearance shouldn't matter much. There are people who don't even have a tattoo or a piercing and truly scare you with their actions.
"So, you're in Colombia, and there are many taboos about tattoos. But I understand them, and I know that the first impression I give is striking.
"All I would say to those people is to try to research a little more and judge people by their deeds, by their actions, not by their physical appearances. We are all made of flesh and bone."

The Duitama City Council candidate is eager to put his city on the "global tourism map", something he said that he's been attempting to do for the last 10 years. Carlos often provides help to those he need it most, whether that be collecting toys for children in poverty or feeding stray dogs.
He admitted that he just wants to make "difference."
"I know that this body modification thing is a bit aggressive and offensive to people who are not used to it, but I am an ordinary person," Carlos explained.
"I believe that as long as a person doesn't harm anyone, doesn't disrespect others, and follows ethical principles, there shouldn't be any disagreements."
