Leaving a sour taste! Hospitality staff reveal the rudest customers they have encountered

Hospitality work certainly isn’t easy – and having to deal with ungrateful customers surely makes the task at hand even more difficult.

Perhaps every single bartender, waiter and host around the world has had an encounter with a rude guest in their establishment – meaning they all have a story to tell.

Some fed-up hospitality staff have aired their grievances on a Reddit page, Serverlife, as they share images illustrating some of the worst customers ever to walk through their doors. Bored Panda has collated the best (or worst) into an online gallery.

The images include one snap which showed a seating area in a restaurant covered in blue powder after a customer carried out a gender reveal of their baby without asking permission first – and presumably with no thought given to the amount of time it would take to clean up. 

Elsewhere, a patron left their serving staff a small tip because another customer’s child was screaming while they ate – something the stingy punter expected the staff to control.  

Waiters and bar staff from around the world took to the Reddit page Serverlife to share the infuriated encounters and Bored Panda collated the best into a gallery. They included one server who was left a measly tip because her customer claimed she’d wished her happy birthday in a ‘lazy’ tone

And for one unlucky server, a customer who sneezed with food in his mouth left quite an unpleasant mess to be cleaned up after he paid his bill and left the restaurant.

Another customer wrote ‘tip at the back’ on the receipt, only to write seven passive aggressive tips to the server- including ‘pretend like you give a sh**.’

It’s a… big mess! Some very inconsiderate customers held a gender reveal party for their unborn baby boy at a restaurant, leaving blue powder and confetti everywhere 

In an insulting move, one ‘big tipper’ in the US left a ‘million dollar bill’ for their server which, sadly, was a fake 

One waiter shared a photo of what they claimed was the bar in their establishment covered in bits of food after he sneezed with food in his mouth

Elsewhere, one unreasonable customer gave a small tip for their server because the staff didn’t control another customer’s screaming child

Another customer wrote ‘tip at the back’ on the receipt, only to write seven passive aggressive tips to the server- including ‘pretend like you give a sh**’

Another particularly sensitive customer decided not to leave a tip because the waiter didn’t ‘smile’ while serving them

One customer said she was not leaving a tip at all because the server called her ‘hun’ – and she left a watning not to do it again 

Another customer, in the US, left a note on the receipt asking the waiting to not tell her kids off, even though they were apparently throwing sugar at other patrons

While a waitress, in Miami, received an unsolicited sexual advance from a customer who left a very brash note at the end of his meal asking her to come to his hotel room 

One server, who waited on an ‘experienced manager’ received a patronising note at the end of his meal which told her she needs ‘a lot of training’ and offered her some advice
