DEAR DEIDRE: I DON’T know how to cope with my husband’s terminal cancer, or how I’m going to get through his final weeks.
I’m 69 and he’s 78. My friends have suggested I create memories by taking photos, visiting favourite places and having deep conversations.
One has suggested asking him about his worries, beliefs, or what songs he likes.
Another has said to take each day as it comes and try not to worry about what the future holds.
Just be there to support him, try not to argue but if we do, always make up as soon as possible.
I’ve tried to take all the advice on board but it’s so hard.

DEIDRE SAYS: Your friends mean well but you have to find your own way of coping.
Some people are practical, but others can feel overwhelmed.
Be attentive to your husband and emotionally close as is comfortable. Communication is a big part of coping.
Make time for the two of you to talk about what’s most important to each of you.
You can find support at Macmillan Cancer Support (macmillan.org.uk, 0808 808 0000).
