Idris Elba reveals the best dancer at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding – and says they were ‘letting it all go’ to his DJ set

Idris Elba has revealed that the Duchess of Sussex was the best dancer at her wedding to Prince Harry in a new interview. 

Unknown to many, the Londoner has a highly success career within the music industry having played at Ibiza nightclubs and festivals, and was the DJ at Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in 2018. 

In the past the Luther star has said that despite the Duke, 38, being the one that asked him to DJ, it was in fact the Duchess, 41, that provided him with a list of all the tracks to be played on the big day.

And now he has spoken out on who was the best mover on the dancefloor at the event, telling ET Canada: ‘I think Meghan was the one that was really like letting it go.

‘You know, she was real… She just had a lot of fun. It was her wedding. So she had the greatest time.’

Unknown to many, the Londoner is well known within the music industry having played at Ibiza nightclubs and festivals, and was the DJ at Harry and Meghan’s wedding in 2018 

Harry and Meghan tied the knot in front of millions worldwide at St George’s chapel within the grounds of Windsor Castle on May 19 2018.

As well as their families, the guest list expanded to a number of celebrities including the Beckhams, George Clooney and Oprah Winfrey.

And in a previous interview Idris revealed he thought Prince Harry was ‘joking’ when he offered him the gig.

Speaking on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, he spoke about how the Duke came to offer him the job, saying: ‘So Harry and I have hung out a couple of times through his dad’s [Prince Charles] charity – The Prince’s Trust – which helped me out when I was a young actor.

‘Harry came to a couple of parties that I DJed and he was like, “What are you doing on [May 19]?”‘

The Mandela actor explained he was stunned when he was approached for the enviable role: ‘I told him nothing and then he asked if I would DJ at his wedding… I was like is this a joke?’

Meanwhile elsewhere he has said he felt the night was a lot of pressure.

He said: ‘That was an incredible experience. I was curating the music for that night, so it was a alot of pressure, but it was great. A vibe.’

Speaking to ET Canada, he said that the Duchess was ‘really letting go’ and enjoying the dancefloor at the wedding reception 

Among Meghan’s requested songs for the event were Still by Dr Dre and the classic by Whitney Houston, I Wanna Dance With Somebody. 

In their Netflix series, Harry and  Meghan shared a number of pictures from their wedding album. 

In a clip about the 2018 reception Meghan said: ‘I just really wanted the music to be fun. Even our first dance.’

She turns to her husband and asks: ‘Song of 1,000 Dances? A thousand dances? I always get it wrong.’

The duchess sings lyrics from the 60s soul hit Land Of A Thousand Dances, which the couple chose for their first dance.

In a previous interview Idris revealed he thought Prince Harry was ‘joking’ when he offered him the gig (pictured, in 2013) 

It is the first time they have publicly acknowledged which tune they went for.

Snaps from the event showed Meghan and Harry twirling around on the dancefloor, as well as boogying with friends from their star-studded guestlist. 

Idris’ revelation today comes after Prince Harry and Meghan today declared that it is Archie and Lilibet’s ‘birthright’ to be called prince and princess in a new statement defending the decision.

The Duke and Duchess also insisted that the matter had been ‘settled for some time’ with King Charles – despite only being revealed by the couple yesterday.

The King is said to have told Prince Harry that his children would be allowed to be called prince and princess in a ‘private conversation’ after the Queen’s funeral last year.

But their 21-month-old daughter Lilibet saw her royal title of ‘Princess’ used formally for the first time yesterday when the couple told the world she had been christened in California without Charles, Camilla, William and Kate present.

A spokesman for Harry and Meghan said: ‘The children’s titles have been a birthright since their grandfather became Monarch. This matter has been settled for some time in alignment with Buckingham Palace.’

Sources close to the Sussexes had suggested they were frustrated that Buckingham Palace failed to immediately recognise Archie and Lilibet’s titles after the Queen’s death six months ago.
