DEAR DEIDRE: I’M fed-up with my friend standing me up when we arrange to play golf together.
I’m 61 and don’t drive, he is 64 and has a car, so he picks me up for our golf games.
He gets arthritis and I have a lung condition so between us, we aren’t great but I really value seeing him.
We were due to play golf last week and I was all ready to go.
He then texted me asking if we could cancel as he hadn’t slept well. I wasn’t feeling too good either but didn’t want to let him down.
How come he thinks it’s OK to do it to me? He’s done this to me many times.

DEIDRE SAYS: I’m sorry but if he wasn’t up to a round of golf, there’s not much you can do about it.
What you can do is tell him that you would appreciate maximum notice if he’s going to cancel so you can make alternative arrangements.
Reiterate that you do value his friendship.
Spreading your friendship group may help so talk to the captain at the club to see if they can fix some games with other players.
