Content creator and psychology student Cecilia Ann has taken to TikTok to explain the use of the Rorschach test.
The Rorschach test is a psychological experiment that can reveal information about your personality based on what you see in the inkblot.
And while the credibility of the test is often debated, Cecilia has revealed a surprising way it can tell you if you are holding onto trauma.

Content creator and psychology student Cecilia Ann has taken to TikTok to explain the use of the Rorschach test
The Washington-based content creator took to the video-sharing platform to explain how the test could help you figure out if you had any mental disorders based on what you glimpsed.
If you saw something extremely complicated in the inkblot, you may be suffering from emotional trauma.
The test is a psychological test designed by psychiatrist Hermann Rorschach.
‘The test involves presenting a subject with images of inkblots; the person then describes what they see in these blots. The test can purportedly assess personality, emotional functioning, or certain mental disorders,’ according to Psychology Today.
Cecilia showed viewers an image of an inkblot and asked them what they saw before she dove into an explanation.
She said she was reading the book titled The Body Keeps Score by Bessel van der Kolk, who wrote about the test.
The content creator said that the author alluded to ‘wartime veterans, people with PTSD and people with trauma, and how the… test can tell you a lot about those people.’
‘So whereas somebody hasn’t had a super-traumatic experience they might say, “I see two people dancing, I see a cat or I just see ink on paper,” [the trauma researcher] noticed that a lot of the veterans would see these images and all of a sudden relive their trauma, they would have flashbacks,’ she added.

Cecilia explained that if you saw something complicated in the images, then you were most likely ‘stuck in the past,’ adding that this was common with veterans suffering from trauma.
She added: ‘Whereas our imagination allows us to leave our everyday routine life – to fantasize about food or traveling… these things are taken away with trauma.’
Citing the book, the content creator explained that people who are battling with trauma can suffer from ‘a failure of imagination – a loss of mental flexibility,’ adding that there was a risk that there was ‘no hope to envision about the future and no place to go, and no goal to reach.’
She then cited Sigmund Freud who said: ‘I think this man is suffering from memories.’
The inkblot test has long divided the world, with even Cecilia claiming there is no ‘standard response.’
