Phillip Schofield came out in a lengthy Instagram story post in February before going on This Morning to be interviewed by his co-host Holly Willoughby.

The silver-haired TV host, 58, said it was one of the most difficult things he had ever done, but thanks Holly, 39, for supporting him and always being by his side.

Holly appeared choked up at the sentiment and embraced her on-screen husband and told him she would be by his side "forever".

He has since opened up on his “secret meeting” with Holly before he made the decision to come out, as he praised his “incredible” co-host for her support throughout.

After the touching moment, we take a look back through their 14 year friendship – both on and off screen.

How they met

The hosting duo first met when they took on Dancing On Ice together for the first time back in 2006.

Holly later joined This Morning and became incredibly emotional as she discussed her friendship with Phil in the past.

She told MailOnline: "Phil and I met on this show. There's a lot of history in this show."

She added: "My kids really love the show as well. I get quite emotional thinking about it, that all of them were carried in my tummy on this show and when we finished I always went off and had the babies… Oh my God you're going to set me off!"

Feud rumours

Holly was forced to his back over reports of a secret feud between herself and Phil, after Dancing On Ice judge Jason Gardiner branded the pair “fake”.

Hitting back at the time, Holly said: “There’s nothing to defend.

“We ring each other and talk to each other all the time anyway, about this and other things.

“We know what we’re like. It would be impossible for us to fake the giggles.

"I’m on the telly for two and a half hours – let me tell you, I’m not that good an actress. If I was, I’d be doing something else.”

Holidays together

Back in 2018 the pair even enjoyed a sunny holiday together in Portugal while taking time away from the This Morning sofa for summer.

The presenters both posted photos parodying loved-up snaps of Tom Hiddleston and Taylor Swift at the time, wearing matching “I [heart] H.W” and “I [heart] P.S” t-shirts.

Phillip captioned one of his posts with “bestie”, and Holly then reposted with the word “Love!!!”.

On-screen chemistry

The pair are known for their incredible on-screen chemistry, and regularly leave viewers in stitches with their hilarious banter.

Speaking about his presenting partner, Phillip previously said: “We have a fantastic connection with the audience and anything can happen because the topics are so adaptable. No two days are the same.

“I have a great chemistry with Holly Willoughby because we have such a similar sense of humour, and the whole team pulls together.”

Support through coming out

During an appearance on The One Show in October, Phillip praised his co-star for being so supportive as he opened up on his sexuality.

“We’d had a big lead up to that moment and when I knew what I had to do Holly was one of the first people I told,” he explained.

“She is such a wise person, she has got such a calm, sensitive aura to her. We had to figure out how we were going to do something like that, and that’s the worst thing about it If you’re going to do something in public, it had to be public.”
