James has been busy with his world tour  for of his fifth studio album, The Afterlove, which was released in March.

The singer-songwriter opted for a change of direction with his latest collection of songs, veering away from the balladry that has all too often divided fans – particularly in his native UK -and embracing a comparatively modern sound.

Discussing album track Make Me Better, a song co-written with Ed Sheeran – James told The Daily Telegraph its lyrics were inspired by his wife Sofia Wellesley- but admitted it wasn’t easy for him to open up.

He said: ‘It’s a song I’m uncomfortable with for that reason. Ed said ‘Come on, it’s your job, you veil a lot of things,’ for that reason it was great to work with him… he is so open and he dragged me into that space.’

James and Sofia wed in 2014 and share a one-year-old son together.

They tied the knot in a secret ceremony the day after Elton John’s End Of Summer party in Windsor, with a source telling the Mail on Sunday: ‘Sofia joked to friends that she was almost too hungover to get married.’
