Karen Halloween costume goes on sale – and some people are left furious

With Halloween just around the corner, it's time to start planning what costume you are going to wear.

There's no doubt that there will be many Squid Game costumes this year, however one retailer has offered an alternative in the shape of a 'Karen' costume.

If you're wondering what a 'Karen' is, then it is usually associated with the type of person who demands to "speak to the manager" in order to belittle service industry workers, is anti-vaccination, and carries out racist micro-aggressions, such as asking to touch black people's hair.

In terms of the 'Karen' costume, it doesn't look like you get much in the package as it's simply just a blonde wig with some oversized sunglasses.

A Twitter user named Helen shared the costume online as she branded it the "scariest costume" out there.

However, it didn't seem the post didn't go down well with everyone.

One person fumed: "This is super wack. Absolutely nothing funny about a whole species of people that put Black people in danger of losing their lives with a simple phone call. I hate it here."

While another added: "The way yt people have managed to turn this into a joke is honestly so unsurprising. A whole costume for a label that's supposed to identify yt women who weaponise their whiteness to brutalise black people."

A third added: "I don't see s**t funny bout that, that's the face of either someone that's gonna get you fired from your job or cause you bodily harm when she crashes her car into you."

While a fourth said: "I don’t like how they’re profiting from the very real issue of racism."

The 'Karen' term has escalated to such a level that San Francisco introduced the Caution Against Racial and Exploitative Non-Emergencies (CAREN) Act, which makes it a hate crime if someone places a racist call to 911.

If someone calls 911 about a person of colour when no crime has or is being committed, then the target of that call can sue the perpetrator.
